COURSE DESCRIPTION
INTRO TO KEYBOARDING & APPLICATIONS GRADE 6
This introductory keyboarding course is offered to all sixth grade students.
It includes a complete presentation of the alphabetic keyboard using the
touch method. Other topics that will be introduced include the Internet,
Microsoft Office, and Career Awareness. Microsoft WORD will be used
to teach formats for reports and letters. PowerPoint slide presentations
will be implemented. Students will create a portfolio to showcase their
progress and achievement. Developmentally appropriate methods of individualized
instruction will be utilized to support standards based learning outcomes.
INTERMEDIATE KEYBOARDING & APPLICATIONS GRADE 7
This intermediate keyboard course is offered to all seventh grade students.
It includes a review and reinforcement of the touch method of keyboarding.
Students will explore more advanced computer applications in the following
areas: Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint), Internet Research,
and Career Exploration. Integration of these various applications
will be taught. Students will create a portfolio to showcase their
progress and achievement. Developmentally appropriate methods of individualized
instruction will be utilized to support standards based learning outcomes.
SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS GRADE 8
This course will be offered to all eighth graders and is designed to
increase students' awareness of computers and applications. Information
on computer terminology and components will be included. Students
will be introduced to operating systems and troubleshooting. The
Microsoft Office instruction includes advanced topics in Word and PowerPoint,
as well as an introduction to Excel (spreadsheet analysis) and Access (database
analysis). Expanded career exploration and Internet applications
will be integrated with Microsoft Office. Portfolios will be created
to showcase students' progress and achievement. Students will create a

appropriate methods of individualized instruction will be utilized to support
standards based learning outcomes.
