Chalky and Shirt were going to meet one of Dufus' favourites, John Levene. Unfortunately, Dufus was going to be on holiday. However, it was announced that The Punch Middle was having a signing of its new UNIT first-day cover including John Levene. £49 was outside Dufus' price-range, but the news that he could buy a set of greetings cards for £8.50, lifted his spirits. Chalky was away on holiday, and Shirt declined to accompany Dufus, no longer interested in stamp collecting (well, philately gets you nowhere!).

The first problem of the day was the unusual situation of Dufus not having much money (HEAVY IRONY). He therefore had to write a cheque at the train station for his ticket, got the date wrong three times, before leaving to get a snack at McDonalds (notice that he had money for this!). It was whilst devouring a McMuffin, that Dufus realised that he hadn't signed the cheque, and so rushed back to put this right.

Reaching Charing Cross Station, Dufus was unable to find the Stamp Centre, due to Shirt's complicated instructions - "Turn right out of the station, and it's about five minutes walk on that side of the road". He therefore, phoned Shirt who was pretending to study for his course at home, beginning the conversation with the UNIT callsign. The inexplicable instructions repeated, he started off up the road, walking straight past the queue of around thirty people outside the appropriate building, finally realising that this might be the place.

Joining the queue, disappointed at how far back he was, Dufus waited for the signing to start. However, fate, or the owner of the shop next-door annoyed at having fans queuing in front of his window, stepped in, and bizarrely the queue was broken in the middle, and Dufus found himself propelled to the front, as the queue became two deep (Most things are too deep for Dufus!) Buying the greetings cards, and depositing the fiver given to him by Shirt, to get some of his own items signed, in the charity box, Dufus was told that he could get one item only signed by ONE of the guests. First in the line was John Levene, Dufus proffered two covers, one of his and one of Shirt's, and both were signed.

Happily there weren't many people around, and so all the guests said that they would sign more. This would have been fine, if Mr. Levene hadn't passed on items to Mr. Richard Franklin next to him, who was poised to sign one of Shirt's items in which he did not appear. Dufus saw everything going pear-shaped, particularly when Tom Baker joined in the fun, trying to sign anything that went near him, whether it related to him or not. Mr. Franklin also expressed ignorance of "Dragon's Wrath", when Shirt's cover was offered to him, not even believing that he had been involved in it when the photo of him on the back was pointed out. Shirt's "City of Death" cover, signed by Lalla Ward, elicited a murmur of "Oh, Lallaaa!!" from her one-time spouse. Dufus managed to resist the temptation to ask Tom what it was like sleeping with LALLA WARD!!!.

Then came a photo opportunity. Standing next to John Levene, posing for a shop assistant who was vainly trying to work out how Dufus' camera worked, the one-time Sergeant asked Dufus, "How do you want me to pose - butch or sensitive?". Dufus decided that there was no answer to that ! Alerted to the camera, a quickly despectacled and groomed Richard Franklin posed with Dufus, whilst GOD (or Tom) just beamed for the camera.

Leaving the shop, and after a quick phone call to Shirt - "Greyhound Leader to Trap 1. Mission Accomplished !", Dufus managed to fight his way across London on the Underground, finally reaching his home base.
