What is DSS ?
DSS stands for DESKPACK Software System. DESKPACK stands for DEcision Support Knowledge PACKage.

What are the components of the DESKPACK Software System (DSS) ?
Important components of the DESKPACK Software System (DSS) include, a neural networks module, a signal analysis and display module, a software agents module, an administration module and a knowledge engineering module.

What is the language and platform on which the DSS runs ?
The target platform for the DSS is either Windows 95, or Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000. The DESKPACK Software System is implemented using Visual Prolog and 'C'.

What are the different versions of the DESKPACK Software System ?
A standard version and a professional version are under development. Version 1.0, which is currently in use, is the standard version.

Can a User, once he gets DESKPACK, make additions to DESKPACK to suit his needs ?
It is possible to customise DSS, in the professional version.

Where will the User get help for using DESKPACK ?
Help is online. It is built into the DESKPACK Software System. Users can also become members of the DESKPACK Discussion Group (currently functional) to get the required help and guidance.

Does DESKPACK support Multimedia ?
The DESKPACK Software System can handle both audio and video files.

What are the basic areas of usage of the DESKPACK SS framework ?
The DESKPACK SS can be used under three broad categories [a] as a tool box, [b] as an advisory system and [c] as an interpretation / decision making system.

Where can one use DESKPACK when it is ready ?
The DSS is basically a decision support system and can be used as such in any domain, where decisions are made regularly, and the expertise / knowledge to make such decisions are available. However, the DSS is specifically designed for scientific domains where decisions are taken on the basis of analysing and interpreting signals / images, such as Nondestructive Testing, Medicine, Finance, Seismology, etc..
