become the first punk band to appear on UK TV programme Top Of The Pops. They make their Televised debut tonight performing their current chart entry 'In The City'
were thwarted in their attempt to advertise their new single today. Thames TV rejected a ten second advertisement just thirty minutes before it was to air. The ad had Johnny Rotten glaring at the camera saying, "You thought you'd got rid of us but you were wrong, old bean. We're back, with a vengeance." Then Steve shoves Johnny aside and toasts the camera with a Queens Silver Jubilee tea mug and says, "God save the Queen mar san."

THE RAMONES have their first UK single "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" released to coincide with their UK tour. There is a limited number of 12" singles pressed (12,000) and the offer of a free t-shirt to those first 1,000 who send in their proof of purchase. The Ramones begin their UK tour tonight at Eric's in Liverpool with fellow New Yorkers Talking Heads billed as Special Guests. For the gig and 45 review go here
THE RICH KIDS
Sounds magazine reports that former Pistol bass player Glen Matlock has concluded auditions for the guitar slot in the band, giving the position to ex-Slik vocalist, guitar player, Midge Ure. Glen has known Midge since before Johnny joined the Sex Pistols as their singer. In fact, Midge was asked to join the Pistols but turned it down to be with his new group Slik. Another budding guitarist who was turned down for the Rich Kids, was a young player from Wythenshawe, Manchester named Billy Duffy. He'll find his own niche when he forms local band The Nosebleeds and future fame in the mid '80s as the guitarist for the Cult.
More Scottish punk outfits crawl out tonight with The Jolt and Exile playing Glasgow, Strathclyde Univ.
The Jolt
are among the first punk bands along with the Rezllos to form in Scotland. They comprise Jim Doak bass, Robert Cullins guitar and vocals and lain Shedden on drums. Rehearsals began in September '76 and they began suprising audiences with a pub gig at Burns Houff, Glasgow, the following March. They wont get signed till later on in the year.
The Exile
from Glasgow had a great snotty sound which got em slot on the Streets album, and it proved you did'nt need bondage gear to produce the goods. They also make their vinyl debut later on this year on their brilliantly named Boring Record label.
