What is the west bank? This term refers to the area on the opposite side of the Mississippi River from the city of New Orleans, La. Actually the compass direction is south, but who' s got a compass? We natives refer to this area as the best bank. Anyway, this is our first attempt at a web page and will reflect our interest in painting . We hope to add the art of other "westbankers", and provide a "gumbo" mixture of whatever else comes to mind, maybe some local history, some good cajun recipes, and who knows what else. .

Louisiana , and in particular, Jefferson Parish, offer a wide variety of subject matter for a painter. The swamps and bayous , the cajun culture, and joie de vivre of the people are reflected in the work of local craftsmen. Although watercolor and water media will be featured, we will display work in all mediums in the Gallery. We also proudly feature the work of the late Dr. Edward Dupont, a great New Orleans watercolorist, in the Tribute to Ed page.

A gumbo in South Louisiana is a dish concocted of whatever is available at the time the dish is planned; if an unlucky chicken gets caught, it's chicken gumbo; if seafood is in season, it 's a seafood gumbo. Although the basic gumbo sauce recipe is always the same, the availability of other ingredients gives the dish uniqueness and variety, and the Gumbo page will reflect this variety in it's subject matter. Gumbo is also the creole name for okra, which is one of the staples in the dish. We have also included a Songs page which has some favorite tunes for you to check out.
