He is buried at White Cemetery, Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL. He was the son of Eliphalet and Martha (Stites) Hewitt Sr. His father Eliphalet Hewitt Sr. was born in 1804 in NY or PA, and died in 1870 in Jersey County, IL. His mother Martha Gelispe Stites was born in 1806 or 1809 in NJ or Hamilton County, Ohio and died 4-6-1856 in Jersey County, IL. (Another source says her maiden name was Gillespie), (A tombstone in Jersey Co. reads Martha wife of E. Hewitt, died 1856, aged 47). She was the daughter of Jonathan Benjamin Stites born Nov. 18, 1774 in Ohio and died Feb. 26, 1855 in Jefferson Co., Indiana and Elizabeth Lawrence born Aug, 25, 1777, died 1864. Martha's father Jonathon Benjamin Stites was the son of Henry Stites & Lydia (Osborn) Stites.

(Note: Eliphalet Hewitt Sr. was possibly a son of Shamgar Hewitt born 1-29-1750, and Rachel Smith. They were married 2-10-1788 in Cape May Co., NJ. Shamgar Hewitt was a Revolutionary War Soldier. Shamgar Hewitt was a son of Joseph Hewitt (born 1714) and Phebe Leonard.)

White born 10-27-1802, and died 10-14-1860 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried in White Cemetery, Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL. His father Joseph White was born in 1773. The Whites arrived in Illinois in the early 1800's. Eliphalet Hewitt Jr. married Margaret Maria Boomer 11-10-1909, the daughter of John and Mary (Werner) Delaney Boomer. She was born 3-20-1862 in Jersey County, IL, and died 2-25-1945 in Jersey County, IL. She is buried in Noble Cemetery, Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL.

After her first husband Eliphalet Hewitt Sr's death Margaret (White) Hewitt remarried to William Deffer 9-25-1871. He was born in 1830 in Bavaria, Europe. John G. Hewitt's obituary - John G. Hewitt, an octogenarian, died at his home southwest of town, Monday, June 25th, at 9:30 a.m. Hewitt is survived by seven children. He was 82 years, 8 months and 13 days of age. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27th from the Union Forest Church, with Rev. Reuben Russell officiating.

(1) John and Mary (McManus) Hewitt's son William A. Hewitt Sr. was born 5-5-1884 in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL and died 5-12-1936. He married Freda Kraushaar, the daughter of Charles and Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar. Freda Kraushaar was born 1-13-1902 in English Township, Jersey County, IL. She died 3-16-1946 in Jersey County, IL. She died of cancer when only 44. She married William A. Hewitt 9-7-1922. They lived on a farm in Union Forest area of Jersey County, IL. William and his wife Freda (Kraushaar) Hewitt are both buried at White Cemetery, Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL.

William A. Hewitt Sr.'s obituary - William A. Hewitt, 52, of the Fieldon area died at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis Tuesday. Services will be conducted at the Union Forest Church Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. George Vawter. Burial will be in White Cemetery. Hewitt was born near Fieldon May 5, 1884. He farmed for 25 years. He became ill Nov. 1, and from that time was unable to return to his farming duties. He was the son of John and Mary McManus Hewitt. He is survived by his widow, one son, William A. Hewitt Jr.; one daughter, Helen Katherine Hewitt; two brothers, Fred and Leonard Hewitt of Fieldon, and three sisters, Mrs. Martha Raftis and Maggie Jones of Jerseyville, and Mrs. Stella Reed of Shipman.

Freda (Kraushaar) Hewitt's obituary - Mrs. Freda Hewitt of the Union Forest vicinity died Saturday morning, March 16, 1946 at 1;50 o'clock at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton where she had been for treatment for the last seven weeks. Mrs. Hewitt was the daughter of Charles Kraushaar of Jerseyville, and the late Mrs. Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar, and was born in Jersey County on January 13, 1902. Her age at the time of death was 44 years, 2 months, and 3 days. Mrs. Hewitt was the widow of William A. Hewitt and until recently had operated a farm in the Union Forest vicinity.

Surviving Mrs. Hewitt are one daughter, Miss Helen Hewitt, and one son William Hewitt, both of Fieldon; her father, Charles Kraushaar of Jerseyville; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Horn of Caseyville and Mrs. Lovie Westfall of Fieldon; and one brother, Raymond Kraushaar of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, March 18, at two o'clock at Jacoby Brothers' Chapel in Jerseyville. Reverand Vernel Gibson of Collinsville officiated and interment was in White Cemetery.

William and Freda Kraushaar Hewitt sr.'s daughter Mrs. Helen K. (Hewitt) Wahl Simpson's obituary - Funeral Mass for Mrs. Helen K. Simpson, 49, of R.R. 3, Jerseyville was celebrated Monday morning, Feb. 24, at St. Francis Xavier Church with Father R.T. Shea, celebrant. She died at 5:45 a.m. on Feb. 22, 1974 at Jersey Community Hospital after an extended illness. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. She was born Oct. 23, 1925 in Jersey County, a daughter of William and Freda Kraushaar Hewitt. Mrs. Simpson was a nurse's aide. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary of Jerseyville. Her survivors include her husband E. J. Simpson; four sons, James, Alan, Rick and Robert Wahl of Jerseyville; a daughter, Mrs. Louis (Pam) Blackorby of Franklin; and a brother, William Hewitt of Troy. Visitation was held at Jacoby Funeral Home where the Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Sunday evening, Feb. 23.

Helen (Hewitt) Wahl simpson's 1st husband James William Wahl Sr.'s obituary - James William Wahl Sr., 68, of rural Pearl died Friday, Sept. 14, 1990 at his residence. Born March 28, 1922 at Jerseyville, he was the son of the late James Francis and Nora (Murphy) Wahl. He married Lola Lowe July 23, 1973 at Jerseyville and she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Pam Blackorby of Franklin; four sons, Jim, Alan and Rick of Jerseyville and Bob of Highland; two stepchildren, Marvin Uphold of Milton and Joyce Herren of Wood River, and 17 grandchildren. A mechanic, Mr. Wahl had worked at McDonnell-Douglas for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He was a World War II Army veteran. A funeral mass was held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Jerseyville with Father Henry Schmidt oficiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Jerseyville American Legion participating. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Xavier or Holy Ghost Schools.

Alan Wahl's former wife Pamela (Rice) Wahl's father Billie Charles Rice's obituary - Billie Charles Rice, 78, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Robings Manor in Brighton. Born March 23, 1929, in Alton, he was the son of Thomas and Ida Mae (Ruckman) Bishop. He retired from the Olin Corporation as a ballistics tester and foreman in 1989. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Rangers. He was a member of the Alton Eagles FOE 254 and enjoyed fishing and golf.

Surviving are three children, Linda Wickenhauser and her husband, Jim, of Godfrey, Billie L. Rice of O'Fallon, Mo., and Pamela Wahl of Brighton; five grandchildren, Christopher Wahl and his wife, Betsy, of Jerseyville, Kyle Wahl of Jerseyville, Laura Wickenhauser of Godfrey, Tom Wickenhauser and his wife, Margaret, of Edwardsville and Alan Wickenhauser and his wife, Cristal, of Bethalto; four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Hope Ann, Josey and Michael Wahl; a brother, Harry E. Rice of Longwood, Fla.; and a former son-in-law, Alan Wahl of Brighton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Rice. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. The Rev. Mark Church will officiate. Arrangements were by Vinson Funeral Home, Tarpon Springs, Florida. Interment was in Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, Florida. He was in the Military Service and was a U. S. Marine Corps Korean War Veteran. William A. Hewitt Jr. married Dolores Fayollat. William A. Hewitt Jr. worked on the railroad in the East Saint Louis, and Collinsville, IL area. Later after illness he retired to Tampa, Florida. William A. Hewitt Jr. and Dolores (Fayollat) Hewitt had 4 children-William (Willy) Hewitt, Robert Hewitt, Lisa Hewitt, and Rebecca Hewitt.

Paul Leonard Hewitt's obituary - Paul Hewitt of Fieldon Dies JERSEYVILLE, April 11 — Paul Leonard Hewitt, 44, a resident of the Fieldon vicinity, and a veteran of the world war, died Sunday at Jefferson Barracks Hospital. He was a veteran electric lineman of this area, having worked for many years in and near Jerseyville. He is survived by his wife and three daughters: Betty, Phyllis Ann and Marjorle Mary; three sons: John, Jerry and Jessie. He also is survived by three sisters. Funeral rites are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Francis Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father John J. Clancy officiating. Burial will be In St. Mary's cemetery.

Willenburg, 80, died at 9:25 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County. She was born July 17, 1920, in Jerseyville, a daughter of the late Leonard and Theda (Reed) Hewitt. She worked for the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville before she was married and worked at the Western in East Alton during World War II. She married Francis Charles "Frank" Willenburg Feb. 2, 1946, at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Jerseyville. They were married for nearly 50 years before his death Dec. 16, 1995.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Fran Willenburg of Jerseyville; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Ed Gowin of Kane; two grandchildren, Pamela Royse of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Shawn Clark of Brussels; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kelsey Royse and Easton Clark; and two sisters, Margie Chapman of Greenfield and Phyllis Yost of Brighton. Preceding her in death were three brothers, John, Jess and Jerry Hewitt. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville with the Rev. Reuben Ankeny officiating. She will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

(1aa) Francis Charles "Frank" Willenburg and Betty N. (Hewitt) Willenburg's son Darrell Eugene Willenburg's obituary - Darrell Eugene Willenburg, formerly of Jerseyville, 59, died at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Nov. 7, 1949, in Carrollton, the son of Francis C. and Betty N. (Hewitt) Willenburg. Darrell grew up in Jerseyville, where he attended high school. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army before he was honorably discharged and returned home. He married Fran Herring on July 3, 1976, in Fidelity, and they have shared the past 33 years together. They resided in Jerseyville until recently, where they moved to Rustic Acres in New Douglas. Darrell was employed with Jersey Community School District for 23 years. The outdoors was very much a part of his life. Darrell loved to go hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Fran; a son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Connie Clark of Meppen; two grandchildren, Easton and Colby Clark; a twin sister, Darlene and her husband, Ed Gowin, of Kane; a sister-in-law, Bobbi and her husband, Ron Steinkeuhler, of Jerseyville; one niece; four nephews; one great-niece; two great-nephews; and a mother-in-law, Jeanie Herring. He was preceded in death by his parents. Darrell Willenburg's wife Frances (Herring) Willenburg's father Robert Vernon Herring's obituary - Robert Vernon Herring, 81, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at his residence. He was born April 27, 1927, in Woodville Township in Greene County, the youngest of 10 children born to Jacob E. and Chancey Mae (Rice) Herring. He grew up in Carrollton and worked as a mechanic in a few body shops in Carrollton/White Hall before entering the United States Army during World War II, serving with the Army/Air Force in Japan. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and married the former Ada E. Edmiston Feb. 1, 1947, in Carrollton, where they resided for the first five years of their marriage before relocating to Jerseyville, where they continued to live. They shared 48 years together before she died Dec. 3, 1995. He then married Jeanie (Fischer) Louvier Feb. 14, 2004, at the Assembly of God Church in Carlinville. She survives. He was employed at Olin Corporation in East Alton and retired as a slitter adjuster in the Brass Mill after 36 years of service, and was a 50-year member of the Machinist's Union. He was an accomplished musician, concentrating on both the guitar and harmonica, and was a member of the Sunshine Band in Jerseyville, entertaining residents of area nursing homes for many years. A member of the Fidelity Assembly of God, the three staples in his life were church, family and music, and he devoted much of his time and love to all three.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanie of Jerseyville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Darrell Willenburg of New Douglas and Bobbi and Ron Steinkuehler of Carrollton; five grandsons and their spouses, Shawn and Connie Clark of Meppen, Doug Steinkuehler of Carrollton, Chris and Whitney Steinkuehler of Godfrey, Robert Steinkuehler and Justin Steinkuehler, both of Jerseyville; two great-grandchildren, Easton and Colby Clark; four stepchildren and their spouses, Charles and Shiela Louvier of East Alton, Brian Louvier of Gillespie, Michael Louvier of Carlinville and Timothy Louvier, stationed with the United States Army in Iraq; 10 stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ada, three sisters, Ethel Shaw, Virginia Miller, Mella Gilleland and an infant sister, Christina; five brothers, Jacob, Roy, Norman, Fred and Harold Herring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17. The Rev. Rothe, retired farmer of Rural Route 1, Jerseyville, died Wednesday, January 19, at St. Luke hospital in St. Louis, the day before his 81st birthday. He had been a patient at the hospital for a week. Friends may call at the Warner Funeral Home in Brighton after 3 pm Thursday. At noon Friday the body will be moved to the Presbyterian church at Brighton where services will be held at 2 pm with Rev. Bob Branin officiating. Interment will be in Brighton cemetery. Mr. Rothe, a son of the late Herman & Katherine (Weber) Rothe, was born in Jersey County January 20, 1891. He was married in 1916 to Lillie M. Downs. Her death occurred in 1964.

Bliss Which Was Sunk Off North Africa, JERSEYVILLE, Dec. 31—The name of John Edward Hewitt of Jerseyville, United States Naval Reserve, appears on the Navy's list of men missing in action. Release of his name confirms a previous notice received here Dec. 17 by his mother, Mrs Theda Hewitt. She was advised in a telegram from the Navy Department. Hewitt was fireman, second class, and was serving on the Taskar H. Bliss, when that vessel was sent to the bottom in the initial invasion of Africa by the United States forces under General Eisenhower. Prior to receiving the telegram from the Navy Department, Mrs Hewitt had learned that the ship on which her son was serving had gone to the bottom early in November as a result of enemy submarine action. The Tasker H. Bliss was sunk off the port of Casablanca, Mrs. Hewitt last heard from her son Oct. 23 and that time he was a fireman third class. Hewitt enlisted in the Navy on June 26, 1942, and took his boot training at Great Lakes. He was transferred to the Philadelphia Navy Yard and later to New York, from which port he was assigned to foreign service. He is the son of the late Leonard Hewitt and Theda Hewitt. His father served in the first World War overseas. He was born in Jersey county, on March 5, 1924. Besides his mother, he has three sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Chapman of White Hall, IL., Misses Betty and Phyllis Ann of Jerseyville, two brothers, Jerry and Jesse Hewitt, also of this city. He is a grandson of Mrs. Clarence Davison of Jerseyville.

She attended Greene County schools, and graduated with the 1939 class from Carrollton High School. A member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Parish, she attended Mass regularly until her health declined. She married Donald Raftis on Aug. 12, 1940, in Jerseyville and they resided east of Jerseyville for their entire 61 years of marriage, where they farmed and raised their family. She was an avid 4-H leader, where she taught sewing to countless young women. She worked for many years for the Jersey County Cooperative Extension Service and exhibited her baking expertise at the Jersey County Fair. She enjoyed bowling with her lady friends, and participated in numerous bowling tournaments with them.

Surviving are her husband, Donald; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Merle Megginson of Woodson; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dick and Janice Raftis of Grayslake, David Raftis of Medora, Tom and Sue Raftis of Macomb and Jim and Amy Raftis of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her only surviving sister, Helen (Frech) Rhoades of Carrollton. Three brothers, Jake, William and Paul Frech and a sister, Katherine Richards, preceded her in death. He was born in Jerseyville on May 5, 1920, and was one of four children born to the late Orville and Mary Edna (Killebrew) Guilander Sr. Raised in Kane, Bob graduated from Kane High School, and was a resident of Kane for many years, serving on the school board, as well as a Kane Village Trustee. He was 50 plus year member of the Kane Baptist Church, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a charter member of the Crawford American Legion Post 1038 in Kane, and served on the board of the Kane Cemetery. Bob was pipefitter by trade, and began his employment with Shell Oil Company in Wood River. Later he became employed with Ford Motor Company in Hazelwood, Mo., where he retired.

He married the former Effie Alice Mundy in November 1940 and together they were the parents of three children. She and Bob shared 43 years together before her death on Dec. 26, 1983. He later married Anna Marie (Malik) Walsh on June 20, 1987, in Kane, and she died March 11, 2003. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Richard Raftis of North Fort Myers, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Guilander of Collinsville and Richard and Pam Guilander of Chesterfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and George Woods of Chatanooga, Tenn. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Guilander Jr.; and a sister, Joyce Murray. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. "Doc" Collins, 89, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was born May 24, 1919, in Jersey County to David Michael and Margaret "Maggie" (Baum) Collins. He was raised on the family farm in Jersey County, and graduated from Jersey Township High School in 1937. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1941, and served his country in World War II. While on leave, he married the former Roberta "Bette" Young July 26, 1943, at Saint Francis Xavier Church in Jerseyville. They shared 40 years together before her sudden death Jan. 14, 1984. They were blessed with seven children and they all were raised on the family farm. In addition to farming, he was also employed with Modern Plumbing in East Alton for 27 years, and was a member of Local 553. Soon after the death of his wife, he retired. He married Barbara (Schleper) Arger Oct. 7, 1988, at Saint Francis Xavier Church, and they recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. He was a devoted man, whether it was to his family, his church, his country, or to the citizens of Jersey County, who honored him with their confidence to serve in many capacities. He was a precinct committeeman for many years in Fidelity Township; was currently serving on the Jersey Township Board; served on the Jersey County Board for 16 years, the last four serving as board chairman; and was appointed by the governor to serve as the Jersey County Public Guardian until the time of his passing. He was a loyal member of the Democratic Party, the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Fourth Degree member, and served as a past Grand Knight; member of Jerseyville American Legion, Elks and Moose Lodges.

He retired at 62 from about 40 years working in construction and mining. He was at Pearl Harbor working underground when the Japanese attacked, and after 2-years there, went to the Aleutians for more military construction work designing crushing plants, roads, a break water & etc. When that type of work ran out, the military wanted him to stay on the island driving trucks and tractors, so he enlisted in the Navy eventually ending up on Okinawa. Then he went to Peru to work in a mine at 13,500 ft. until illness forced him to leave the altitude. He then returned home to the U.S. to continue his education. He later worked for Bechtel Corp. in San Francisco, CA and abroad for 25 years until his retirement. He now lives in Walnut Creek, CA.

She was born June 17, 1917, in the Otter Creek Township portion of Jersey County, one of two children of Arthur W. and Lora (Reed) Dabbs. She married Cpl. Clyde M. Reddish, and they were married for three years before he became a casualty of World War II. She married Harold Blackorby on Sept. 30, 1946, in Greenville, and they shared a marriage that spanned 50 years before his death June 4, 1997. Educated in the Jersey County country schools, her early employment included the International Shoe factory and Inman's Department Store, both in Jerseyville. She also served as the Welcome Wagon hostess for Jerseyville and Wood River. Her true career enjoyment was fulfilled as the chief deputy recorder of deeds in the Jersey County Clerk's Office, where she served for 17 years with Linda Crotchett. Her many memberships included the First United Methodist Church of Jerseyville, Jersey County Republican organizations and the Jersey Community Hospital Volunteers. She was especially proud to be listed in the "Who's Who in American Politics" and receiving the charter for the first Cub Scout pack in Jerseyville, which was Pack 59 in 1953.

He was married to Cannie (Cox) Reed January 21, 1866 by Rev C. H. Foote, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Jerseyville, Illinois. To this union 4 children were born, 1 daughter and 3 sons, of which 3 died in infancy. Willian V. (Van) the only one surviving his father. He enlisted in Company D, 144th Regiment, Illinois Infantry, on August 30, 1864, and was honorably discharched July 14, 1865.

My Reed died at his residence on Goodrich St. March 4 at 2:50 pm. He leaves his wife, 1 son, many brothers; relatives and friends. He was known as a good citizen and respected by all who knew him. During the past year, and especially the last 3 months, he had been an intense sufferer. A few weeks ago he accepted Christ as a personal savior and was baptized witnessing a good confession. We rejoice to believe that he fell asleep in Jesus. The final services were held in the Presbyterian Church, Friday, May 6 at 2:30 pm and were conducted by Rev, W. H. Jordan who was assisted by Rev. S. Catt.

(5) Sarah Elizabeth Reed, daughter of William Henry Reed and his 2nd wife Mary Elizabeth Dowdall was born 3-5-1867 in Jerseyville, Jersey Co., IL, and died 12-20-1937 in Jerseyville, IL. She married Charles Fletcher Landon 4-8-1885, born 12-10-1863 in Jerseyville, IL, and died 7-13-1936 in Jerseyville, IL. He was son of Milo Landon (1838-1907) and Huldah Hinson (1845-1896). Milo Landon was a son of Norton Landon (1811-1884) and Sarah Ann Fortner/Falkner (1818-1882); a grandson of Ethan Landon (1779-1850) and Hannah Lindsley born bef. 1790; and a great grandson of Thomas Landon born bef. 1760 in Vermont, and Experience Johnson born 1770. (1a) Charles Fletcher Landon and Sarah Elizabeth (Reed) Landon's daughter Nina (Landon) Kirchner's husband Herman Christopher Kirchner's obituary - Herman Christopher Kirchner died 02-21-1964. Unknown newspaper, 27 February 1964: "H. Kirchner, ex-sheriff, died Friday - Herman Christopher Kirchner of this city, former city and county official, died Friday afternoon, 21 February at 1:35 o'clock at Garnet's Nursing Home where he had resided six days. His death followed an extended period of ill health. The family home was at 407 West Spruce Street. Mr. Kirchner was elected Sheriff of Jersey County in 1954 and served a four year term. He also served eight years as Deputy Sheriff during the regimes of Sheriff Herman H. Blackorby, Jr., and the late Sheriff C. E. Wedding. Mr. Kirchner was employed as radio operator for one year during the term of office of Sheriff Howard Perdun. In 1951, Mr. Kirchner was elected a member of the Jerseyville City Council and served as Commissioner of Public Property. He resigned the post in December, 1954, to assume his duties as sheriff. A resident of Jerseyville for twenty-seven years, Mr. Kirchner and his wife engaged in the grocery business for five years, and he also operated a filling station for a time. The decedent operated a milk route in the county for ten years. Mr. Kirchner was a son of the Late Otha and Mary Brockmeyer Kirchner and was born in Jersey County on 11 September 1890.

His age at the time of death was seventy-three years, five months and ten days. he was a member of the Otterville Baptist church and of Jerseyville Lodge No. 394, AF & AM surviving Mr. Kirchner are his wife, Mrs. Nina L. Kirchner, one daughter, Mrs. Preston (Eunice) Mowen of Jerseyville, one son, Hurbert Kirchner of Alton, two grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Betha Myers of Jerseyville. One daughter Mrs. Melva Oliphint, preceded him in death. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where final rites were held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Rev. Mode Powell, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Masonic services were held Saturday evening at the funeral home.
