George J. "Pappy" Clark



George J. Clark was born in Jersey County, Illinois on November 2, 1880.  He married Lottie Cope.  George J. Clark was a farmer and farmed property just a couple of miles south of Jerseyville, next to the Tracy farm, on what is now Crystal Lake road.  He died on a Monday, July 10, 1939 and is buried in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Jerseyville, Illinois.



Obituary

George J. Clark, well known farmer of Mississippi Township, died at his home southwest of Jerseyville, Monday, July 10th, at twelve-five o'clock.  He has been ill for some time, Clark is the son of the late John and Annie Gavin Clark, and was born in Jersey County, November 2, 1880.  At the time of his death he was aged fifty-eight years, eight months and eight days.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lottie Clark, one son, Edward of Jerseyville, two grandchildren, two half-brothers, James McHale of East St. Louis and Patrick McHale of Jerseyville, and one half sister, Mrs. Frank Tonsor of Jerseyville.

Funeral services were held at St. Francis Xavier's Church in Jerseyville, Wednesday, July 12th at nine o'clock.  Requiem Mass was celebrated by Reverend Father John J. Clancy and interment was in St. Francis Cemetery.




One son was born to George and Lottie Clark:

Edward Gilbert "Bud" Clark, born April 20, 1906, in Jersey County, Illinois.  Bud married Ada Marguerite Schneider on December 3, 1932 at Jerseyville, Illinois.

Bud Clark was baptised and attended St. Francis Xavier Church in Jerseyville.  He was raised on the farm of his parents, just southwest of Jerseyville.  He held several job occupations including: State Highway Supervisor, Supervisor of game (ducks and pheasants) at Olin Farms near Brighton, Illinois, and he was engaged in the business of farming.

Children born to Edward G. and Marguerite Clark were:

George Edward Clark, born July 20, 1933 at Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois.

Rosemary Clark, born July 21, 1934 at Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois.

Judith A. Clark, born October 18, 1945 at Carrollton, Greene County, Illinois.
