James "Seamus Rua" Garvin--After our last sheela pilgrimage,
I noticed that images of sheela-na-gigs have been creeping into my
beloved's photographs, carvings and illustrations...
Starr Goode--an artist and researcher who has lectured and written
widely on sheelas. She sent me a gorgeous cast of the Ballylarkin sheela.
PJ Harvey
Link to the official PJ Harvey band website. Polly Jean Harvey and her band recorded a song called "Sheela na gig" on their 1992 album Dry.
Fiona Marron --I read about this artist in the Lammas 1996 issue of
"The Bealtane Papers". She does wonderful sheela-inspired paintings.
The article said that she was moving to Ireland, but I cannot find anything
about her on the web. If anyone has any information, please contact me at

Nancy Spero is a well-known and prolific feminist artist. She
has used the sheela image in a number of her pieces--my favorite is
"Chorus Line" from 1985, in which 9 multicolored Kilpeck sheelas
stand defiant, arms linked. An excellent book on this artist is
"Nancy Spero" published by Phaidon Press and available on Amazon.com.
