St. James Window

St. James and the Corporal Works of Mercy

In the back of our church is a window depicting St. James our patron. Surrounding him are symbols of the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy, which are:

  1. Feed the Hungry
  2. Clothe the Naked
  3. Visit the Sick
  4. Minister to the Imprisoned
  5. Bury the Dead
  6. Give Drink to the Thirsty
  7. Welcome the Stranger

In this window God gives us the gift of seeing with our eyes what we struggle to see with our hearts. The Corporal Works of Mercy are suggested as our appropriate response to the admonition in James' Letter also quoted in the window "Faith without works is dead".
