CLUB FUNDRAISING

A well-run fundraiser can definitely help you reach your team’s goals. Fundraising can take many forms. To view specific fundraising ideas for Toronto through companies such as Krispy Kreme and Loblaws, click HERE.

Some successful ideas that teams have had:

- Auctions, live or silent
- Bake sales, cake sales
- Car washes
- Dances, movie night, roller-skating parties
- Holiday Oriented Events
- Talent Shows
- Walk- / Dance-/ Bowl- a-thons etc.
- Ice cream socials
- Bowl-a-thon
- Talent Contest
- BBQ, fish fries, spaghetti dinners, pancake dinners, etc.

Team sponsorships are very effective. Approach local businesses and corporations to sponsor a sport club and invite them to a practice. A letter introducing Special Olympics and encouraging them to sponsor you can be provided.

Think about only spending 20% or less of the revenue on fund-raising costs.

The Logistics

Appoint a Project Co-ordinator: responsible for dates and communicating of date, location, drawing up flyers, handling promotion, writing letters requesting supplies etc., obtaining equipment

Garage Sale Co-ordinator: recruit members to start collecting and confirming donations (I can provide a letter to you explaining about Special Olympics and encouraging donations). Night before event, have them dropped off at location, price and arrange, make arrangements for pickup on Monday (think about calling another charity), make sure you have change on hand. We also have flyers which you can give out.

Bake Sale Co-ordinator: recruit members to start collecting and confirming baked goods – make sure it is people you know and trust donating. Morning of event, have them dropped off at location, then you need to price items and arrange. Make sure you have change on hand. We also have flyers which you can give out.
