"Because He Lives"

Following a brain injury in 1993, I retired early and am now involved in a number of activities. During three years of therapy, I learned strategies that help me to cope with deficiencies in the areas of organization, memory, attention, concentration, and communication.

THE PAST

My entire career was devoted to the secretarial profession where I had excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth. I achieved the highest levels of excellence working for top level management in several Fortune 500 companies.

A lifetime member of Professional Secretaries International, now known as International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), I have been afforded the privilege of personal, professional, and educational growth. I was Chapter President, Chapter Secretary of the Year, State Secretary of the Year, and was nominated for Southeast District Secretary of the Year.

I have also edited and produced several newsletters in the fields of business, education, and property management.

THE PRESENT

My life has completely changed since retirement. Many hours every day are spent at my computer which is both enjoyable and therapeutic. Besides communicating with family and friends on the Internet, I am involved with a group of Korean War veterans and families. (See my Dedication Page.)

I enjoy sacred and classical music and not a day goes by that I do not play my beautiful antique grand piano ... a precious gift from the Lord! Near the bottom of each of my pages, there is a banner link to Rose's Music Pages . Over the last three years, God has blessed my web site and it has grown to 30 pages, including 14 music pages. So, a great deal of my time is devoted to maintaining these pages and communicating with visitors.

Last but not least, my beloved orange tabby kitty-cats, Tiger and Samson (a/k/a "Ti" and "Sam"), occupy a large part of my time and affection.

THE FUTURE

One of my favorite Gospel songs describes my thoughts about the future:

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow
by Ira F. Stanphill

I don't know about tomorrow; I just live from day to day.
I don't borrow from its sunshine for its skies may turn to gray.
I don't worry o'er the future for I know what Jesus said;
And, today, I'll walk beside Him for He knows what is ahead.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand.
But, I know Who holds tomorrow, and I know Who holds my hand!

Every step is getting brighter as the golden stairs I climb.
Every burden's getting lighter; every cloud is silver-lined.
There the sun is always shining; there no tear will dim the eye.
At the ending of the rainbow where the mountains touch the sky.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand.
But, I know Who holds tomorrow, and I know Who holds my hand!

I don't know about tomorrow; it may bring me poverty.
But, the One who feeds the sparrow is the One who stands by me.
And, the path that is my portion may be through the flame or flood,
But, His presence goes before me and I'm covered with His blood.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand.
But, I know Who holds tomorrow, and I know Who holds my hand!

I May Never See Tomorrow

I may never see tomorrow; there's no written guarantee.
And things that happened yesterday belong to history.
I cannot predict the future, I cannot change the past.
I have just the present moment, I must treat it as my last.
I must use this moment wisely for it soon will pass away,
And be lost to me forever as part of yesterday.
I must exercise compassion, help the fallen to their feet,
Be a friend unto the friendless, make an empty life complete.
The unkind things I do today may never be undone,
And friendships that I fail to win may nevermore be won.
I may not have another chance on bended knee to pray,
And thank God with humble heart for giving me this day.

REASSURANCE

How easy for me to live with You, O Lord! When my mind parts in bewilderment or falters, then the most intelligent people see no further than this day's end and do not know what must be done tomorrow. You grant me the serene certitude that You exist and that You will take care that not all the paths of good be closed. Atop the ridge of earthly fame, I look back in wonder at the path which I alone could never have found ... a wondrous path through despair to this point from which I, too, could transmit to mankind a reflection of Your rays. And, as much as I must still reflect, You will give me. But, as much as I cannot take up, You will have already assigned to others.

~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn ~

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor
depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us
from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39 (NASV)
