Biography
Chipper Jones was born on April 24, 1972 in DeLand, Florida. Baseball quickly became his favorite sport. He was already playing varsity high school ball at Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida as a student in junior high and his talents quickly became known to all. In 1990, his senior season he led his high school to a state championship while hitting .448. In 1991 he was made the first overall selection by the Atlanta Braves in the June Draft. He played in the minor leagues with Macon, Greenville, and Richmond, before being promoted to the Braves at the end of the 1993 season. He only played in 8 games but was set to start in 1994. However, he injured his knee, and missed the entire 1994 season. In 1995 he came back, taking the league by storm. While he started his season a bit slow he played great ball after the all star break. He was runner up to Hideo Nomo in the NL Rookie of the Year voting, which was considered a very contriversial decision. He finished off his best season in 1996, placing in the top 5 in MVP voting. Chipper enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time and resides in New Smyrna Beach in Florida.
