Cancellations
Introduction
In this section I will make no attempt to provide a comphrehensive overview
of all of the types of Cancellations. Here it is my desire to cover
some of the major areas, providing some examples of the major types within
each category. For a very detailed account of the postmarks of Great
Britain I highly recommend The Postmarks of Great Britain and Ireland,
being a Survey of British Postmarks from 1660 to 1940 by R.C. Alcock
and F.C. Holland. For a detailed study of London Postmarks I recommend
The
Postal Cancellations of London 1840-1890 by H.C. Westley.
