·Handwriting: Transition from block printing to cursive the first part of the trimester, then moving to cursive only.
·Math: Calculate and problem solve using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, understand place value, square roots, perfect squares, time, money, graphing fractions and measurement (Saxon Math Program)
·Music: Theory, sight reading, singing, formal music class two days per week
·Computers: Keyboarding skills, word processing, hyper studio program
·Science: solar system, endangered species, ocean, states of matter, human body, life cycles, physical and chemical changes, magnetism, gravity, energy and earth science
·Social Studies: Native Americans, land formations, United States and Government
·Art: open ended and creative exploration using a variety of media
·Physical Education: Cooperative play, organized games, physical fitness and exercise
HIGHLIGHTS
Christmas Program, reenactment of the Stations of the Cross, Weekly Mass and Rosary, hosting school Masses, Choir
Field trips include: Monterey Bay Aquarium, theaters, local museums and others as pertaining to the curriculum.
Student Council, Talent Show, Grandparent’s Day, Ice Cream Social, Science Fair, Writing Festival, Class and other celebrations and choir.
*Reading: Transition from learning to read to reading to learn, literacy circles with chapter books.
*Writing/spelling/English: journal writing, personal narratives, reports, persuasive and opinion writing. Spelling lists from the current spelling program as well as from curriculum areas being studied.
*Grammar: Understanding that grammar affects meaning, nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs
*Phonics: Basic phonemic skills, syllabication, parts of words and spelling.
