·Religion: Focus on Forgiveness and journey towards First Holy Communion: Applying religion to every day life and leaning about community
·Language Arts:
·Handwriting: Block writing and transitioning into cursive the last trimester of the year.
·Math: Addition and subtraction, money value, time, problem solving, fractions and multiplication (Saxon Math Program)
·Music: Learning song for Mass and other functions, rhythm and movement (Formal music classes two days per week)
·Computers: Keyboarding, editing, drawing, (type to learn program), learn to save and retrieve documents
·Science: Plant Science, Earth and Physical Science, Dinosaurs, and the human body. (Labs and hands on activities when appropriate)
·Social Studies: Native Americans, Cinco de Mayo, Continents, countries, states and cities: Use of maps, early settlers, and other people who made a difference.
·Art: Art enrichment taught by teacher and other volunteers; use of different media; Merced county Arts Program (ArTree) and other resources.
·Physical Education: Games, fair play sports and physical fitness
HIGHLIGHTS
Choir, Christmas Program, weekly Mass and Rosary, reenactment of Stations of the Cross, First Holy Communion (for Catholics only). Ag Unit-Green house garden. Field trips-Green Houses, Jelly Bean Factory, Ag related trips such as: Hilmar Cheese and Dairy. Ice Cream Social, Talent Show, Grandparent’s Day, Science Fair, Writing Festival, Classroom celebrations such as: Mother’s Day breakfast, birthdays, etc
*Reading: Developing a strong vocabulary, Phonetic and comprehensive skills, plays and role-play, read to enjoy
*Grammar: Identify nouns, verbs, adjectives and creative writing
*Phonics: Consonant and vowel sounds, prefixes and suffixes
*Spelling/writing: Successfully using writing patterns, and high frequency words in every day writing such as; journal and interactive writing.
