·Religion: What it means to be Catholic, Holy Family, Saint’s Days, Baptism and continue to learn more about Jesus.
·Language Arts:
·Handwriting: Block printing, upper and lower case letters as well as the numbers.
·Math: Addition, subtraction, place value, number sentences, measurement, time, money (coins and their value), fractions, mental math, etc. (Saxon Math Program)
·Music: rhythm, movement, songs, Mass responses (Formal Music Class two-days per week) in addition to the classroom music curriculum.
·Computers: basic keyboarding skills, how the computer components work and “type to Learn” program.
·Science: Hands-on activities testing how the world changes (living and non-living things). Labs according to the lessons.
·Social Studies: Living environment, communities, local government and how it works. (Weekly Reader supplements).
·Art: Different types of media, painting, drawing, collage, clay, etc.
·Physical Education: Large motor movement, organized games with teams, and fitness program.
HIGHLIGHTS
Field trips to include Pumpkin Patch, Theaters, Jelly Bean Factory, the zoo and other local field trips that relate to the curriculum.
Weekly Mass and Rosary, Reenactment of the Stations of the Cross, Christmas Program, Ice Cream Social, Big Buddy program, Merced County Writing Festival, Science Fair, Ice Cream Social, Talent Show, Grandparent’s Day, birthday and other class celebrations
·Reading: Phonemic awareness, fluency and comprehension, Guided Reading, Share reading, plays (role play).
*Grammar: composing sentences and short paragraphs, punctuation, verbs, adjectives and nouns.
*Phonics: rules for short and long vowels, diagraphs, blends, etc.
*Spelling/writing: words that help the students with their writing, , word wall, journal writing and first grade spelling lists from the curriculum.
