Litter River Light, Maine |
This is a postcard I painted of the Little River Lighthouse in Maine. This
light was featured on the cover of the June, 2000 issue of Lighthouse Digest. It is one of America's
many "endangered" lighthouses and is in need of restoration. The light was constructed in 1847 on
Little River Island, marking the entrance to Cutler Harbor. The tower was rebuilt in 1876 and the
station itself was discontinued in 1975. |
The American Lighthouse Foundation has taken over the responsibility
of restoring this and many other historic lighthouses. We simply cannot allow any more
of America's lighthouses and other historic treasures to crumble. Please consider a donation to help
the Little River Lighthouse and other lighthouses. Donations can be sent to the American Lighthouse
Foundation, P.O. Box 889, Wells, Maine, 04090. I will periodically be featuring paintings of
endangered lights in the hope that people will become more aware of the plight of American lighthouses.
