When Seinfeld wrapped up its ninth and final season in the spring of 1998, the popular show's namesake and cocreator decided to offer a symbolic gesture to his fans. Taped for HBO in August 1998, on the final date of Jerry Seinfeld's tour appearances at New York City's Broadhurst Theater, I'm Telling You for the Last Time presents the standup comedian's so-called "final" standup, or at least his final tour with the standup material that made him famous. The video opens with a great prologue in which Seinfeld's old material is literally laid to rest, with many of Seinfeld's comedy colleagues in attendance at the "funeral." (Jay Leno is there, but David Letterman is conspicuously absent, and while it's a bit self-congratulatory to show Seinfeld's fellow comedians fighting like vultures over his abandoned jokes, it's worth it just to see Garry Shandling pilfering from the catering table like a homeless intruder.)

Whether he's talking about airline flights, cab drivers, or memories of Halloween and an ill-fitting Superman costume, Seinfeld's observational humor is as timeless and sharp as the day he first performed it. Even the most familiar routines (such as the one about pharmacists with a superiority complex) are like old friends who still haven't overstayed their welcome. Seinfeld's delivery is polished to a shine--he's a consummate professional--and an impromptu Q&A with his appreciative audience demonstrates that he's equally adept with a fast and witty comeback. This performance certainly wouldn't be the last we'd see of Jerry Seinfeld, but from the perspective of phenomenal fame and fortune, it's a fitting farewell to the classic "bits" that took him to the top.

I have listened to the cd by the same title many times, but it was really worth it to get the dvd. First, they are not the same performance. Some things (like "chicken of the sea" and "retsin") are on the cd but not the dvd. Other things are on the dvd but not the cd (the standing ovation bit). The lines and the readings of lines are just a bit different, so if you're sufficiently Seinfeld-involved, you will find that fascinating. The question and answer section is partly different too. Second, there is an opening short film on the dvd, and it's pretty funny, and of interest to "Godfather" fans too. Third, the facial and physical gestures add a whole dimension that you had to imagine on the cd (the bit about being first or second in a race is quite detailed).

His facial expressions are really hilarious. Third, you can actually hear a member of the audience say "Jerry's a racist" after he does the "Amahl and the symbol for boron" bit. I never heard that on the cd! I give it 5 stars as the best it can be in this genre, standup performance comedy, not in comparison to feature films. I can't get enough Jerry. People who complain he's repeated his jokes... fine for you. For me, I listen to the cd over and over and am glad to have a slightly different version on dvd. I love trying to figure out why Jerry is so lovable when he's so misanthropic. -- Amazon Review.

Jambalaya Studios Review - I watched the VHS version of Jerry's New Yoy-k performance. The Florida segment where Jerry describes living in the Nursing Home State of Florida. No income tax there by the way. 80% of the residents are retired anyway. State Flag of Florida - Steering Wheel with a hat and two old knuckles. Starting to warm up.

The Supermarket Milk segment was when Jerry started to kick ass. "Do we still have milk? I saw the carton in the fridge but I can't remember how much was in it.' Think of all the people we have seen stalled in the milk section of the grocery stores.

Hey a bonus! A Drug Store segment! 'I'm up here looking down on you while I transfer pills from this BIG bottle to this little bottle.' Well, yeah OK. That's pretty much all people see us do. I can vouch that we do a whole lot more that no one else gets to see.

The Doctors segment was probably the 2nd best part of the show. Waiting Rooms and telling the Doctor for a change....'I"M not ready to see you now. Why don't you go back into your little office and I'll call you in 5 mins. And what's with the little office anyway? Is that where doctors go to look up stuff they can't get a handle on?' ...

The Luge segment was for me the best part of it. The sport that Jerry figures anyone can win whether they are psyched or not. Everyone is just hanging on for dear life. "World Record!.....Didn't even want to do it.' Doesn't matter if he does.

I've come across some reviews that say 90% of the opening stand-up segments in the sitcoms are way better than this one nighter. I have to say that's true but when you're Jerry Seinfeld, how do you top Jerry Seinfeld? Here, go watch it yourself. I'd probably give it a 8 out of 10. Which is great knowing 10 will rip probably your gut out.
