my kinda music

i was born on the 10th september 1965. the rolling stones were number one with (i can't get no) satisfaction. i was a 70's kid and only began to appreciate the 60's about ten years ago. my favourite bands being hermans hermits, the mamas & the papas, the girl groups like the shangri-la's, the ronettes, the supremes and the crystals.

it was when i was around six or seven years old that i first saw david bowie performing starman on top of the pops. this opened my eyes to the glam rock movement. i was obsessed with the sweet and loved marc bolan too. this page has links to almost every band and artist, big or small, of the glam rock movement. in 1974 i was in the mud fan club and a year later would rush home from school to catch shang-a-lang, the bay city rollers show.

by the end of the 70's punk rock was right in your face. i would lay in bed on a sunday evening listening to street heat, a show on radio luxemborg that first made me notice artists like blondie, the new york dolls, ramones and patti smith. the uk scene was just blossoming too with the sex pistols,

my kinda movies

my first memories of movies are the family musical kind. i loved the jungle book, chitty chitty bang bang and most of all mark lester & jack wild in oliver. but the first film to move me was the wonderful kes and during my teenage years scum had a similar impact on me.

when the 1980's began, i was 15yrs and discovered the john waters movies that i went on to watch time and time again. divine and edith massey were always wonderful. mink stole was always incredible, along with the other regular dreamland faces like mary vivian pearce, david lochary and the fabulous cookie mueller.

andy warhol's movies also caught my eyes especially when joe dallesandro was the star. there were some real characters who turned into warhol superstars.

i began to rent out video nasties like the texas chainsaw massacre, i spit on your grave, abel ferari's driller killer, the evil dead, wes craven's chilling last house on the left and of course a clockwork orange. the scala cinema gave me a chance to see shockers like thundercrack and salo 120 days of sodom.

it was at the scala where i also saw great gay movies like taxi zum klo and rainer werner fassbinder's fox and his friends. two other great gay film-makers were jean genet who made the wonderful short un chant d'amour and kenneth anger made the brilliant fireworks and scorpio rising.
