Grandmaster Joon Pyo Choi and his student Lee Modjeska in 1991
Professor Modjeska passed away a few years ago, but not before
touching the hearts of many people in the OMAC family, especially Master
Choi. He was a beautiful man whose fight to live with cancer is captured
in his book Keeper of The Night. The book does not portray martial
arts a some Eastern miracle cure, but chronicles Lee's journey during his
illness to find answers to questions about himself through martial arts,
friendships, and his own spirituality. It is such an important book for
any person to read who is serious about looking at themselves as a living
being, so that means it is especially important for all martial artists
to read. Lee Modjeska doesn't talk about all of Master Choi's awards and
accomplishments(unfortunately, that's all most martial arts magazines tell
you about a person), instead Lee's use of Master Choi's quotes throughout
his book, and even as chapter titles, lends insight into the true nature
of both men.
