Jolted from the rear end of a light delivery car driven by his son, Orville Lilly, 60, 1417 West Illinois street, lay dying in the street wit a fractured skull while his son, Jess M Lilly, Decker road, drove a mile and a half without noting his absence. Father and son were employed at the Louisville and Nashville shopshops in Howell and the senior chose to ride in the rear of the car "because it cooler" he said as they started home after their usual custom about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The elder Lilly died within 30 minutes after the fall.
Missing his father after he arrived at the elder Lilly's home, the son fearing for what had happened, hastened back over the same route as he had taken and found that his sire had fallen out just as they were leaving the L & N yards. The dying man was rushed to the office of Dr. Thomas Macer in the West Side bank building, and emergency treatment given, but to no avail. Coroner Max Lowe who will hold a formal inquest this morning, declared that death was probably due to cerebral hemorrhage, Lilly's skull being fractured near the base.
The victim of the accident had been employed at the L & N shops for a number of years as a repair man, and it was the daily custom of father and son to ride home together. Lilly is survived by his wife Lilly, three sons, Jess, Erwin (Ervin) and Charles, and four daughters Mrs Lucy Schuettler (Schettler), Mrs Roscoe Myers, Mrs Ariel Pierce (Pearce) and Miss Ella Lilly. Funeral arrangements had not been made last night.
