I wish I had found this quote when I was writing my sermon, since I took the angle of Jesus' need to go through Samaria:

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail"

Ralph Waldo Emerson

This, to me, is the essence of Jesus' journey through Samaria. The normal path of avoidance, hatred, segregation, and prejudice was not the path he took. Instead, his path led to healing, redemption, and a saving relationship with an entire village.
