Step I: Initial Acquaintance

35 And he is saying to them on that day, after evening had come (gen. absolute): Let us cross over (aor. subj.) to the other side!" 36 And after leaving the crowd, they are taking him along, just as he was, in the boat, and other boats were with him. 37 And happened a great storm/squall of wind and the waves were [continuously - imperf. act. ind.] pounding against the boat, so that already being filled [was] the boat. 38 And he himself was in the stern, upon a headrest/cushion sleeping [like a dead man - cf. katheudo in 1 Thes 5:10 = "to be dead"]. And they are waking him [perhaps: are shaking him until he is awake?] and they are saying to him: "Teacher, not is it of concern to you that we are [about to be] perishing?" 39 And after having been woken up [aor. pass. partc.], he gave a command to the wind and said to the sea: "Calm down! Be silent!" And/then ceased the wind and there was a great calm.40 And he said to them: "Why cowardly you all are? Not yet you all are having faith?" 41 And they feared a great fear and they were saying to one another: "Who, then, is this man that the wind and the sea are obeying [giving obedience to] (3 sg pres. act. indic.) him?"
