Matthew 14:13-21

Initial Acquaintance/Rough Translation

(DH) C. ROUGH TRANSLATION

13 But, having heard this, Jesus made room upwards [withdrew?] from there in a boat [in]to a deserted place all by himself; and, having heard, the crowds followed him on foot [by land?] from the cities. 14 And after going out, he saw a great crowd and he had compassion [up]on them and he healed their sick ones.

15 But after it became evening, the disciples came toward him, saying: "A deserted place it is and the hour already passed by; release [set free?] the crowds so that they, after going away into the villages, might buy for themselves food!" 16 But he said to them: "They have no need to go away, you all give to them to eat!" 17 But they are saying [continue to say] to him: "We have nothing here except five loaves of bread and two fish." 18 But he said: "Bring them here to me!" 19 And after ordering the crowds to sit down [at table] upon the grass, after taking the five loaves and the two fish, after looking up into [the] heaven, he blessed [spoke a blessing?] and having broken he gave to the disciples the loaves, and/but the disciples [gave them] to the crowds. 20 And all ate and were filled, and they took up the overflow [left overs?] of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 21 And/but the people who ate were men, about five thousand, without [not counting?] women and children.
