C. ROUGH TRANSLATION

(JEA)14:1) "Let not the heart of you all be stirred up; you all believe (Gr. "pisteuo" 2nd. p. pl. pres. ind. or impv.?) in God and you all believe (Gr. same question?) in me. 2) In the household of my Father there are many abiding (remaining?) places (Gr. "mone" > "menein" cf. esp. Jn. 6:56; 14:10, 17; 15:4-7, 9; I Jn. 2:6, 24 etc.). If not, would I have said (Gr. >"lego" 1st. p.s. aor. act. ind. + "an") that (Gr. "hoti" either "that" or intro. to direct address "..."?) I am going to prepare a place for you all? 3) And if I am go and prepare (Gr. aor. subjs.?) for you all, again I am coming and I shall receive (take?) you all along side toward myself, in order that where I am also you all may be. 4) And where I lead under you all know the path (road?)."

5) And Thomas says to him, "Lord, we do not know where you lead under. How are we able to know the path?" 6) Jesus says to him, "I am the path and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me. 7) If you all knew me, also my Father you all will know. And from now you all know him and you all have seen him."

8) Phillip says to him, "Lord, show (Gr. "deiknumi">aor. impv.) to us the Father and it is enough for us (Gr. "arkeo")." 9) Jesus says to him, "For such a long time with you all I am and not you (singular!) knew me, Phillip? The one having seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, ‘show to us the Father'? 10) Do you (singular) not believe that I in the Father (am?) and the Father in me is? The utterances which ones I say to you all from myself not I am expressing, but the Father in me abiding does his works. 11) You all trust (same as v.1 accept for prep.?) me that I in the Father (am?) and the Father in me (is); if not (except?) on account of the works themselves you all trust (believe? as above).

12) Truly, truly I say to you all, the one believing in me the works which ones I am doing that one will do and more ones than these he/she will do, because I am going to the Father. 13) And what thing you all may ask in my name this thing I will do, in order that the Father may be glorified in the son (the Son or the adopted-in-sonship one = Gr. "huiothesia"?). 14) If anything you all ask me in my name I shall do.

(DH)1 "Let not the heart of you (pl.) be troubled! Believe in God, and [also] in me believe! 2 In the house of my father [there] are many rooms; but if not, would I have said to you (pl.) that I am going to prepare a place for you (pl.)? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you (pl.), again I am coming and I will receive you [take you alongside] (pl.) toward myself, so that where I AM, also (pl.) might be. 4 And where I am going [returning?], you (pl.) know the way."

5 Thomas is saying to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how are we able to see the way?" 6 Jesus is saying to Thomas, "I AM the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one is coming to[ward] the father, except through me. 7 If you (pl.) have known me, you (pl.) will also know my father. And from now on you (pl.) are knowing him and you have seen him."

8 Philip is saying to him, "Lord, show to us (pl.) the father, and it will be sufficient for us (pl.)!" 9 Jesus is saying to him, "In the very same time [for such a long time?] with you (pl.) I AM, and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me, has seen the father! How are you, yes you, saying [how dare you say?] 'Show me the father?' 10 Are you not believing that I [AM] in the father and the father is in me? The words which I am saying to you (pl.), I do not speak by myself [on my own], but the father, who is abiding in me, is doing his works. 11 Believe [in] me that I [AM] in the father and the father [is] in me! But if [you do] not, believe because of the works themselves!"

12 "Amen, amen I am saying to you [pl.], the one who believes in[to] me, this one will also do the works that I am doing, and he will do greater ones than these, because I am going to[ward] the father; 13 And whatever you might ask in my name, I will do, in order that the father might be glorified in the son. 14 If you might ask anything of me in my name, I will do [it]!"
