Lectionary Year A
March 31, 2002
Matthew 28:1-10

Step II: Disposition

A. Genre

(JFC) Instead of a Resurrection Story per se, this pericope is an account of some of the things, some of the verbiage and some of the people experiencing/discovering Jesus' Empty Tomb. It is reported objectively and almost smoothly with only a couple of brief non-sequiters. It has mostly simple syntax yet with a few elongated sentences that seem to change the style of writing.

B. Personal Interaction

(JFC) Wonder why the women were going only to see the sepulcher? Wonder why the angel told the women not to fear when it was the guards who were said to be afraid. Could these questions be nitpicking the grammar and/or the vocabulary? Perhaps.

C. Organization

(JFC) The women go to the sepulcher to see in verse one. The guards are reportedly afraid in the fourth verse. The Angel tells the women not to fear in verse five.
