Obituary for Cornellia Ambertine Rotan WILLIS Gibbens

From The Boonville Enquirer 13 Oct.1899

Elberfeld
Cornellia A Gibbens was born June 1,1826, near Salisbury, North Carolina., and died at her home in Elberfeld, Oct.5,1899, of dropsy, aged 73 years, 4 months and 4 days. In 1842 she was married to William Willis at Salisbury N.C. To this union five children were born, four boys and one girl, of which two survive, Henry H of Gibson County, and J.W. of Evansville. In 1852 she was left a widow to care for five small children. She married Wm.C Gibbens in 1854 and three sons were born to their union, two of which servive her. J F and J.C Gibbons,of this place. In 1856, she and family came to this place and settled in Dale. Again in 1860 she was made a widow, left to care for four small children which she did with willing hands and always made her children, as every other mother does, her pride and joy. Her Eldest boy lost his life while fighting for his country in the civil war. At the age of 16 she joined the Missionary Baptist Church, and afterwords the C.P.Church, of which she has been a faithful member for fifty years. She has been an invalid for years, but has borne all her suffering with Christian patience. She leaves a host of friends, one great grandchild, a number of grandchildren, four sons and other relatives to mourn her death. Her four sons and their wives as well, have proved their devotion to their aged mother by giving her every possible assistance to comfort her declining years. Interment took place at Elberfeld cemetery, Oct.6th, Rev. Koch officiating.
