Hifi.com is the home of high-performance audio and video components on the internet. We
will offer a combination of better brands, better customer service, better consumer
protection policies and better values than any other consumer electronics website. We are
re-inventing the process of buying good stereo and video products.
A little history.
The management team at Hifi.com collectively has over 200 years of experience in consumer
electronics manufacturing and retailing. Many of us are former employees of Cambridge
SoundWorks, the pioneering manufacturer and direct marketer of high-performance stereo and
home theater products. We've been selling high-quality stereo, video, home theater and
convergence products on the internet since 1994, when Hifi.com became one of the first
internet websites to offer consumer electronics. (Historical note: amazon.com sold its
first book on line in July 1995.)
Our philosophy.
At Hifi.com we are big believers in high-performance. Because an incredibly realistic
music or home theater system can be really, really fun. But we aren't attracted to the
sort of…well…"out there" levels of expense that some audiophiles and
videophiles pursue. (A recent high-end buyer's guide didn't give an "A" rating
to a speaker system that sold for less than $7,000 a pair, and their top recommendation
cost a mere $65,000 a pair. We think this is silly.)
Everybody loves a deal. But we believe the only good deal is when you get a good price on
a good product. All too often, consumer electronics retailers abandon any standards of
product quality in order to "hit a price point." This approach results in stores
and websites selling things like $69 CD changers that don't work very well, don't sound
very good, and don't last very long. And then there's the well-known chain of stores that
recently advertised a name brand (formerly a great name brand) 3-way speaker system for
$11.99 each!?!?
You won't find products like that at Hifi.com. We only sell components we believe
in…the kind we would own ourselves or recommend to our friends and neighbors. What
you will find are well-designed, well-made, great-sounding, great-looking audio and video
products at unbeatable prices.
