GABRIELA TO DOJ:
FILE CHARGES ON CRONY-MISTRESSES AS WELL

NEWS RELEASE
06 March 2001

"File charges now." The militant women's group, GABRIELA today urged the Department of Justice to include the mistresses of ousted President Estrada as respondents to the cases being filed by the DOJ. This, following reports at the Bureau of Immigration that mistress Laarni Enriquez is planning to leave the country for good.

"Unless charges are filed against these plunderers, and they are placed in the Immigration's hold departure list, they can come and go as they please, flaunting and enjoying their millions, spoiling the gains of People Power II," GABRIELA Deputy Secretary General Emmi de Jesus said.

"Laarni as well as Estrada's other women are just as guilty. They conspired with Estrada and benefitted much, at the people's expense. Like Estrada, they should be prosecuted and arrested for their crimes. We hope that the Department of Justice will not let this pass."

GABRIELA likewise chastised Airport securities as well as the Bureau of Immigration. "Laarni has gone past airport security twice already. Estrada went to Zamboanga, and caught airport security off guard. This lackadaisical manner with which concerned agencies are coordinating with the DOJ is alarming. They are allowing criminals to slip off our hands and possibly escape prosecution."

GABRIELA warned that there are still several Estrada moles and operators in the airports that could facilitate not just the escape of Estrada but his mistresses and cronies as well. "They should be cleaning their ranks of scalawags right now, and making sure that no one betrays the people's demand for justice."

In its commemoration of International Women's Day on March 8, GABRIELA is set to present once more its demands to the Arroyo government, including its most urgent call to arrest and prosecute Estrada, his cronies and mistresses, as well as the release of all political prisoners, especially the women and minors. ###
