Soljourner's Relaxing Bath Salts

I've experimented with my bath salts for a while before I've finally come up with a recipe that I enjoy very much.  It's simple and anyone can make them - most importantly; they really work!  Below you will find my recipe - feel free to copy it and use it, but if you reference it on your website, I'd appreciate a link back to this site (thanks, in advance).

Used For:

Stress, insomnia, skin exfolient, aromatherapy, muscle cramps, PMS, headaches, cuts, bruises, skin rashes, & emotional cleansing.

Instructions:

Clear a spot in the kitchen when nobody is around demanding your attention.  Put everything you'll need within easy reach, then think for a minute.  Imagine yourself somewhere more peaceful and calm and relaxing as there ever was.  Some people imagine they are alone on an island of white sand, sunshine, warm breezes, & water falls.  Others imagine floating on clouds.  Imagine whatever works for you, but allow yourself the opportunity to stay there in your mind while you are working on the bath salts.  Imagine that you are adding the ingredient of peace into the bath salts, with the rest of the ingredients.  Imagine that when you finally get to use the bath salts, that the peace will visit you again while you are using them.

Cut cheesecloth or nylon netting into circles about the size of a coffee can lid.  Cut a piece of ribbon for each circle you make - cut the ribbon at least 7 inches in length.  Set aside.

In large bowl, mix together the following:  2 cups of sea salts, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, several drops of essential oil of lavender, 2 tablespoons of rosemary, 2 tablespoons of lavender, 1 tablespoon of calendula.  Mix until the sea salts are no longer white, but sort of tinted a grayish/lavender color.

Take a cheesecloth or nylon netting circle and place on firm surface.  Place about 2 tablespoons of the mixture in the center.  Then, carefully, pull up the ends of the circle and tie the ribbon, firmly, around it.  Place into the air-tight jar.  Continue till the jar is full, then place in bathroom location.

To Use:

Place a lighted candle in the bathroom, then drop a bath salt package (all wrapped up with the ribbon)  into the tub while steaming hot water (as hot as you can stand it) flows.  Lower yourself into the tub and let the peace of the bath salts over come you.  Imagine yourself visiting that peaceful place you had imagined while making them.  Imagine that the peace flows in and out of you while the bath salts soak into your skin, your cells, your mind, your soul.

Stay that way for as long as you need to & when you're ready to get out, imagine that your pain, stress, negativity, and weariness have been cleansed from your body and have floated to the bottom of the tub.  Take the wrapped herbs and scrub your skin with them - it'll help to scrub off dead skin cells while getting the recipe into your skin.  When finished, get out and drain the water.  Imagine all of that stress and negativity going down the drain with the water.  Dry off and dab a drop of essential oil of lavendar onto your pulse points, slather on your favorite lotion, then get dressed.  Go enjoy a cup of tea and a good book or head off to bed (don't forget to snuff out the candle).

Precautions:

If you have a large cut, the sea salts will make it burn - I've found that it doesn't really bother small cuts and actually, it helps them to heal more quickly.

If you have high blood pressure or heart problems, you might not want to make the water too hot - make it just right for you.

If you have allergies, the herbs used in this recipe might cause a reaction - sneezing, watery eyes, etc.  You'll know it right away when mixing them together, if you'll have a reaction to them - if so; common sense says not to take a bath in the them and to investigate other herbs that won't cause such a reaction.

If you just dump the recipe into the bathtub without wrapping it up and then tying it with ribbon, it will loosely float round in the water and will get tangled in your hair, will stick to the sides of the tub, and might eventually clog the pipes - so take my advice and leave it wrapped up.

Results:

The combination of the sea salts, the herbs, the aromatherapy & the meditation should leave you feeling more relaxed, with less pain, less aches, softer & smoother skin, less tension, and less insomnia.
