Bio and Disco
Emperor are best known as the reigning gods of black metal. Hailing from Norway, this three piece has always been otherworldly yet very unpredictable. The band started in '92 with Samoth (drums), Ihsahn (guitar/ vocals) and Mortiis (bass) and recorded a demo titled Wrath of the Tyrant. In response to the recording a small label known as Candlelight Records gave them a record deal. With that move in the band's career Samoth moved to guitar and Bard Faust was brought in for drums. By the end of the year they recorded the Emperor EP and that recording was placed along with Enslaved for a split LP that was released early the following year. Mortiis then left the band and was replaced by Tchort. Then in 1994 they released their first full-length album In The Nightside Eclipse. Soon drummer Faust leaves because of trouble with the law and the band brings in Trym. The band released the Reverence EP in '96 due to the law problems of guitarist Samoth and then in early '97 released Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk which was one of the greatest black metal discs of all time. Bass player Alver then leaves so for the next studio album IX Equilibrium in '98 Ihsahn handles all the bass parts. Its been a long ride for this band but all we know for certain is that it will continue for a very long time!
