President's Message

By Annie Cheng

For those of you who have not yet joined the CCS as members, I would like to give you a brief history of the CCS and what we do. The Canadian China Society was founded by Norman Endicott, the late Bill Small, Bing Ching, the late Bill Wen Senior (of Sai Woo Restaurant), Josey Chong, Professor Jerome Chen and myself. We had our inaugural dinner on March 3, 1972. Our main goal has always been to promote friendship and understanding between Canada and China. Today, CCS is a recognised "non-governmental organization" across the country and worldwide.

With our elevated status as NGO, I'd like to share with you our vision for CCS for the years to come. As China grows and prospers, new opportunities will unfold:

1) CCS will open our membership to accept corporations as corporate members - bilateral trade is mutually beneficial for our two countries and peoples. CCS would like to assist our corporate members to trade with China as well as exchange technologies and expertise. In this endeavour, we look forward to our contacts with Youxie in Beijing, the commercial attache and other personnel from the Chinese Consul General's office for assistance.

2) Exchange teachers and students - China needs English teachers, many of them. I promise you this experience will be memorbale and I'm sure those who have taught in China would vouch for it.

3) Adopt a family in China - for $30.00 a month, we can adopt a family in China. This means the child will be able to have an education and a promising future. This will make a difference to his/her family, village and country. For the donor, there will be much satisfaction in knowing that you are helping another human being.

For those of you who are already members of CCS, please participate and be active in all of our activities. For those of you who are not members yet, I urge you to hurry up and join our Society and help us acheive our vision and our goal. Thank you very much
