Where do I get my supplies, willow trees? Well, I don't have to go far. Every corner has it. Any rural area surrounding Chetwynd, B.C., and there are special spots to go for different kinds of shapes and sizes, depending on what I'm looking for.
I spend a lot of time walking in the woods, looking into the trees. Its a peaceful place and I take my time. I see the chairs in the trees before I even start cutting.
When I take down a tree, I never cut off a limb unless I am certain it can be worked into the natural framework of the furniture. I also refuse to use straight sticks. The result is a complex style that is unparalleled within the world of willow furniture.
I want to put out a unique product. I want to make a name for myself, like any crafter I suppose. I do, however, take my work very seriously. I have such a passion for it.
Between cutting, measuring, sanding, building, and finishing, a chair can take up to two weeks to make. An elegant pine topped dining room table takes even longer. I still have so much more to learn, but woodworking to me is very enjoyable and fulfilling.
