It's Grrreat!!!
Progress Report for the week of 10/7/02

Wednesday- Holy Cow! The Competition is less than 2 weeks away! Good thing we are done! Ok, well, not quite. We have an entry we could put in right now, but there are some improvements we want to make.
Today, I cut and drilled the armor, which went really well for me. Things never line up for me, but I hardly had to do any hogging out at all. In fact, on the top plate (Or is that bottom?), I had to do zero hogging out. The holes were perfect the very first time. I also got a bit of the wiring done but turned lazy quickly. Tomorrow I am going to finish the wiring. Mike is going to be making a piece out of 1/16" Al and flashing to span the center that will hold the speed controls and batteries in place.
We had to loose the fans on the Victors, but I think they will be fine. I mean, we are only running 2 HF's per Victor at only 9.6V, and with those skinny wheels, we should break traction and spin long before we stall. It's a tight fit in there, but it should be good. As for the batteries, we decided to order some 9.6V packs to save space, weight, and improve power. We ended up going with packs made of HR-1700 A size cells from batterystation, and ordered 6 of them. Yeech! $184! I got my order confirmation, but I hope they go out really soon. I actually screwed up when I entered the total on the bill sheet and entered it only for $180, but I sent him an e-mail right away saying he could increase the charge or leave one of the packs unnassembled or whatever. I hope they get here really soon. Next Thursday at the LATEST! The advantage to these packs was that we didn't have to get a good charger. Our HF chargers will do fine for these (Though for next time I'm getting a cycler).
The Armortuf cut and drilled like a dream, and confirmed that I should be a bit concerned about saws. Oh well, we have plans to deal with that. Incase you all wondered, Armortuf is apparently the same plastic as found in Carbonfiber pannels, but with fiberglass mixed in instead of carbon. So, it is inherently the difference between carbon and silicon. Now, check out the pics!
