Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Visit to Malaysia

The Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri Chandrababu Naidu and his high powered delegation were in Malaysia in May on an investment mission. The Delegation received a warm welcome from the Telugu Association of Malaysia on their first day of the visit. A grand dinner was held at Raintree Club, Kuala Lumpur where more than 500 Telugus throughout the country attended the function.

The Chief Minister introduced all members of his delegation before rendering his speech. His speech was delivered largely in Telugu and he started off by saying that " On seeing the large number of Telugu crowd at this function I do not get the feeling that I am in a foreign land but in some part of Andhra Pradesh namely Vishakapatnam". He then explained to the gathering of his vision for Andhra Pradesh where he specifically mentioned that he would like to see AP progressing in the similar fashion of Malaysia i.e. in the Industrial and Service Sectors while at the same time increasing the productivity in the Agriculture sector. He foresees the percentage of contribution of the Industrial and Service sectors towards the GDP to increase while that of the Agriculture sector to reduce as in the developed nations.

Sri Chandrababu Naidu also highlighted on the success of some of his projects such as " Janmaboomi" and other people orientated projects. He promised the crowd by saying " Everytime you visit India you will see some change for the better " . He strongly believes that the Telugus are now more united to achieve the States goal of progress. He also welcomed any ideas, suggestions from Malaysians to improve the State and that he could be contacted by E-Mail. He also requested Malaysian Telugus to invest in Andhra Pradesh or consider Joint ventures in Malaysia.

The Chief Minister also said that he will look into the Associations request for a special Quota for Malaysian Telugus in the Medical colleges and for assistance in the building of a Telugu Samskruthi Nilayam.

While in Malaysia the delegation met the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Minister of Public Works, the Minister of Information, the Minister of Transport, the National Chambers of Commerce and many other industrialists and potential investors. It is believed that a number of MOU's were signed and the link between Andhra Pradesh and Malaysia has been established as a result of the visit. One single achievement of the trip is the high potential of the Proton plant to be set up in Vizag or Kakinada and to establish container and cargo flow from Vizag to Port Klang. Establishing links between the much talked about Multi-media Super corridor (MSC) in Malaysia and the Hyderabad technology Park is another plus point of the visit.

There were also talks between the CM and the ASTRO (Satellite Broadcasting station) chief Mr.Anandha Krishnan and we hope some links between AP satellite channels and ASTRO will be established so that the Telugus in the South East Asian Region can also enjoy Telugu Programs.

The Telugus in Malaysia welcome such visits by high powered delegations and we hope and pray that AP will be developed as "THE STATE IN INDIA".

Thallidhandrula Sanmana Sabha (Tribute to Parents)

Telugu Association Selangor/Wilayah branch had the Thallidhandrula Sanmana Sabha at Wisma Belia, Kuala Lumpur on the 10th of May. The function was attended by more than 350 Telugus and more than 10 sets of parents were appreciated during the function.

The Chairman, Mr. Appanna Naidu said " behind every successful Telugu there is a lot of blood and sweat but yet these parents go unrecognized. We tend to recognize only those who have succeeded while forgetting the force behind the success and it is only right we share the success with the Parents".

The Chief guest of the function Hon. Datuk Zahid Hamidi who is the UMNO Youth Chief who was also honored for his meteoric rise at the function said " the strongest point to ones success is the parents blessing and support. No other support or force can match that".

The concept of the function was well received by everyone who attended the event. The children and the parents went up the stage. The parents were then introduced by the Chairman to the Chief Guest. Then one of the Children said a few words of the contribution of their parents which was followed by Padanamaskaram and offering gifts (garlands, rings, watches, chains etc. etc.) by the children through the chief guest to the parents. We could see the parents were extremely happy to be accorded such recognition on the stage by a very important VIP. There were tears of joy too.

The entertainment program which was rendered by our "Mathruboomi Mithrulu" also helped in making the function a grand success.

Launching of the Malaysia Telugu Home Page

At the "Tribute to parents" function the historic event of launching the MALAYSIA TELUGU HOME PAGE ( http://www.jaring.my/telugu-malaya) was done by the Hon. Datuk Zahid Hamidi - UMNO Youth Chief.
