On the issue of the proposed closing of D. C. General Hospital, and on the occasion of March 22, 2001 Congressional briefing on "Public Health in Crisis, D. C. General Hospital in Focus", State Representative Lamar Lemmons III, 2nd District, Michigan, stated:

I am very disappointed and appalled at the prospect of closing another inner city hospital. Making medical care facilities unavailable is tantamount to withholding health care which is tantamount to genocide.
