It's been
quite some time since a guitar force the caliber of TIM BROOKS
has come storming out of the South. More specifically, Tim hails
from Macon, Georgia, the home of such legendary music scene
greats as Little Richard, Lena Horne, Otis Redding & the
Allman Brothers Band. Tim's awe-inspiring slide guitar work has
earned him the recognition of many hopeful young Georgian
guitarists. He received national exposure when he submitted a
home studio version of his bottleneck tour-de-force, "Made
form Scratch" as his entry in Guitar Player Magazine's 25th
Anniversary Ultimate Guitar Competition. Winners of this contest
were to be chosen in twelve categories of guitar styles with the
entry judged best of those twelve named the grand prize winner.
Tim's entry so floored the distinguished panel of judges that
they not only chose him to win the slide guitar category, but
they awarded him the grand prize also, out of thousands of
worldwide entrants! The grand prize entitled Tim to be flown to
San Francisco where he blew away the crowd in the Guitar player
sponsored Ultimate Guitar Concert. That memorable night in
September found Tim sharing the bill and the stage with the likes
of Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Steve Morse, John Lee Hooker,
Ry Cooder, Adrian Belew, Harvey Mandel, and Greg Allman, with
whom Tim sat in with on a rousing, show-stopping version of
"One Way Out". Tim is no newcomer to the scene, having
plied his trade for over thirty years now. He has garnered
numerous honors over the years; his 45 R.P.M. release "Boating
Down the Ocmulgee" was picked as a possible hit in Billboard
Magazine in 1973. Tim and his brother Greg released their first
CD titled " The Brothers Brooks" in 1994. He has sat in
with various members of the Allman Brothers band and other
Capricorn Recording bands during the 70's, and has opened shows
for such high profile artists as Muddy Waters, Steve Morse, Roy
Rogers, and Tinsley Ellis in the 80's and 90's. Yet Tim's many
years of "paying his dues" have left him anything but a
jaded, mellow veteran; he still projects a passion and fire in
his playing that seems to be reserved for players who are years
his junior. Tim is an enormous mountain of a man with a
commanding presence. With his amazing guitar melodies &
astonishing slide prowess, he is helping take rock 'n' roll and
the blues into the new millennium.
