September 1, 1963- Jim Lipari
began as a manufacturer and distributor of barbecue and spaghetti sauces and formed Lipari Foods. Since that time Lipari Foods
has become a major food distributor serving Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and West
Virginia.
The son of a grocery store owner on the east side of Detroit, Jim learned the ropes of the grocery business
at an early age. After leaving high school in 1946, Jim and his father opened one of the first self-serve markets. Together
they ran this store which featured quite a line for that time...frozen foods!!! Jim operated this store until he was drafted
into the Army in 1950.
Since those early days, Lipari Foods has changed from a wholesaler of strictly retail specialty
food items to what it is today. They are a full-line distributor of deli, bakery, and packaging with an extensive selection
of dairy, grocery, food service, and frozen items to compliment their extensive product offering.
Lipari Foods, now in
its third and largest location, continues to be a progressive leader in the deli-bakery industry. The company will continue
to be customer-oriented as it moves through an ever-changing industry in the 21st century.
