The Cage
2-18-94

I'm in a cage, but it doesn't have walls.
It's only my mind, some say.
It has a lock, but I can't find the key.
Sometimes I wonder if there is one.

I pace the floor, but I still get nowhere.
I only hit walls -- walls I can't see.
I scream for help, but no one seems to hear.
Or maybe it's true -- they just don't care.

I'll not get out, but be trapped forever.
When a door opens, it is replaced.
I cannot die -- but this cage will become
My lonely coffin in life.
