| Mom and I were in the house, looking for something. It was very cold inside and colder and dreary outside. For some reason, Dad had gone to live in the woods, with no house or anything. He had been there for quite a while, and we didn't expect him.
As we were looking around in the living room, I had the eeriest feeling come over me, and I got colder with the rooms being very low-lit. I looked out our front window and I saw two tapirs walking in our front yard. They looked rabid, but they weren't agressive-vicious.
One was a pinkish-purple with black splotches, and the other was small and brown. They were rooting up our yard, destroying everything in their path. I was afraid, because I knew they had a very keen sense of smell, and if they knew I was there...
Then, I heard something in the backyard, and I found myself outside, looking behind me for fear of the tapirs. I knew something even more evil was lurking in the woods behind the house. Suddenly, Dad came around the corner of the fence and into the backyard.
He looked haggard, unshaven and unkempt -- as he would living in the woods. He was looking for something to eat -- acorns or anything. I told him to come inside and get something to eat. He didn't want to at first, but I talked him into it. Then, he disappeared, and the tapirs were headed for the house. I went inside to escape them.
Once inside, I told Mom I had seen Dad outside and asked if he got something to eat. She said he did, but didn't say where he was. Just then, we heard a hideous noise coming from my study, so we went to look.
The noise turned out not to come from there, but Mom's room. There were mad elephants trying to push in a wooden plank in the wall. We could see the impressions their huge faces were making, and knew that when they crashed through, that would be it.
