Sam the Alligator
9-14-96

I was living in a house (one I am not truly familiar with) with Tami and Vance. In this case, Leah was visiting, but she looked like Tami too. In the living room, which connected to the dining room, although the latter was behind a half-partition, there were atrium doors that opened onto a very small rock porch. This porch looked out to a small, grassy backyard that happened to be cut off by a large lake/swamp of some sort. Directly beside the swamp stood a tall cypress tree, but it wasn't a cypress tree because it had low branches, but otherwise it looked like one.

One evening, the four of us were sitting in the backyard (Leah, Tami, and I were sitting on the low branches of the tree, and Vance was standing near the water), when Sam the Alligator came sauntering out of water toward us. We were frightened because Sam had previously broken into our house through the atrium doors in search of us for his supper. Fortunately, though, we weren't in when this happened. I started to run immediately for the house, with Vance close behind, while Sam started to crawl up into the tree branches.

Tami was standing with her mouth open, peering at Sam, while Leah stood behind the tree, too frightened to move. I shouted out for them to run, but to no avail. Sam lazily lay himself across the lowest branch, flipping his tail, and said to Leah and Tami, "you can run, but I know that you don't have a dead-bolt on your door." He said this with a wicked flame in his eyes, too.

I was still shouting for them to run, so finally Tami had run, but Leah was still standing there for a while. She soon followed, though, when Sam forsook his branch and followed Tami to the door. Finally, we were all safely inside the house, and I closed the door before Sam reached the porch.

I tried to lock the door, but the lock barely missed the hole it was to fit into (like some bathroom or dressing room locks get off track). I leaned hard against the door to push it closed and I finally locked the door. I was also delighted to see that we indeed DID have a dead-bolt which I slid shut in triumph at Sam. Sam was watching this and gave a look of indifference as if no locks could keep him out.

We all rushed to have breakfast when I decided to call Judy and Pearl to go shopping with them that day, so Sam could not get to us. We planned to not really go shopping, but stay with them until we could get game control to pick up Sam. We just said shopping in case Sam was listening. There was no answer, however, so I called game control right then and asked if they could spare a couple of men to stay with us in case Sam tried to break in again.

Soon, the main guy came over with two men (actually, one was a cyborg) and then left them there. The cyborg became an immediate friend of mine (um, well, I was attracted to him, OK?). Days passed with only domestic scenes, when finally Sam tried to break in and the man and the cyborg shot him and took him to wherever they took alligators. We got to keep the cyborg.
