Old Crone

I was up in a tree house of sorts, reading a book that compared the writings of Tolkien to other religious works. I had stopped at one paragraph that was telling a legend of a spirit of a woman who crossed over a hill at a certain time each day.

I looked up and saw the woman, dressed in a long, flowing black dress, and white ribbon woven through her long, dark hair. I saw her cross over the hill, then there were two, then three, then four more of her doing the same. From the distance I stood in the tree house, she looked like a fairly young woman, but somehow, she appeared directly below where I stood, and was an old woman. She wore a medieval looking smock with a hood over her head.

She called up to me if I would be nice and give a poor old woman directions. I said sure, and she proceeded to climb up the tree to me. When she got there, I looked and noticed that her arm didn't look human, but like the arm of a bat, only without the wings attached. To my horror, her other arm was the same way. She told me that since I was so kind to her, she would repay me by setting a banquet for me in thanks. I wanted to refuse, but didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I gave in.

Once there, I was joined by two other people (I have no idea who they were supposed to be), and the old woman set a quest for us. The object of this quest, I never gave form to in my dream, unfortunately. During the quest, we were suddenly aware that the old woman was a witch and had cast a spell on all of us. The spell was that we would all bleach our hair against our will. I was bleaching my hair, doing a horrible job of it, and screaming the whole time that I wanted to stop.

After the botched bleach job, all of us were looking for a way to escape, and that came in the form of a hole in the ceiling of a cubbyhole. As we opened part of the hatch, building material was falling on the floor all over the place, and I was commenting that maybe we should pick it up so she couldn't find out how we escaped. However, the urgency of our escape was so great, that we left the debris on the floor.

We crawled out into a greenhouse room of some sort, but it was dark and had one long window that had no way of opening it. We heard the old woman's voice floating to us from all sides saying that we had passed her test and were worthy of $250,000 reward for each of us. We were relieved, yet still frightened, so we left as soon as we could.
