My hobbies include mideval fashion design, cross-stitching, ribbon embroidery, dollmaking, breaking hearts on the IRC, and raising my kids. In needlework, I've done everything except knitting (can't quite get the hang of it!)
In the SCA, I'm a proud member of the Incipent College of Charon. The group was so named because of its annoying tendancy to come back to life, just when it seemed most dead. Our group is strongly involved in the arts of the rapier (light weapons), archery, and Arts & Sciences (crafts, calligraphy, and non-combat-arts). I was never much with a sword, so I stick to archery, and needlework. I'm good at both, so watch out!
For those of you who don't know.. the SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism. The motto is: "Not as it was, but as it should have been." There are no peasants in the SCA. We are all nobility, in some respect, paying homage to a king, and queen, who have won their place through right of Conquest in an annual tourney. It is a chance to escape to simpler times, and when SCA members gather, the hectic pace of real-life is put on pause. We live without electricity, and relax in mideval times, for a while.
I'm twenty-three years old, and I've been sewing since I was eight. That makes fifteen years! I've spent the better part of my life with a needle between my fingers, and a hoop in the other hand! To top it off, I'm lazy, as a sewer, so I know ALL the shortcuts. In all, I've probably accounted for a hundred miles of fabric, in my time as a seamstress.
