My grandad, George Humphries, was chairman of the playground committee. He designed and built the playgound equipment much below the cost of new items. What he used to make the equipment for the playground was scrap: wheels from tractors, farm wagons, plows and combines, old boiler flues, oil well pipe and empty oil barrels.
