Volunteer Chaplaincy Certification Program


The Volunteer Chaplaincy Certification Program is a one hundred - twenty seven (127) hour course designed for individuals who desire to serve in a facility as a volunteer chaplain.


The course consists of twenty seven (27) hours in the classroom. The classes will include, but not limited to, the following areas:


  • The role of the chaplain
  • Basic Principles in Counceling
  • Basic Religious Beliefs
  • Ministering to the Bereaved
  • Universal Precautions
  • Introduction to Community Resources
  • Case Study Review, etc.

    All students must complete one hundred (100) hours of Clinical Pastoral Training (CPT) under the supervision of a clinical field supervisor in a local facility approved by the Institute.

    Upon completion of the 27 hour course and the 100 hours of CPT, the student will graduate with a diploma and certification in chaplaincy certification.

    The term of certification is for a period of one (1) years, then the graduate may be recertified for up to two (2) years.

    Enrollment

    Individuals seeking enrollment and/or recertification must:

  • Complete an application
  • Submit a resume
  • Submit a brief statement of your faith
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from your Pastor
  • Submit two letters of reference (No Relatives)
  • Send two passport photos
  • Send $ 25.00 non-refundable application fee

    Admission

    Admission to the volunteer chaplaincy program will be based upon completed application, the approval of the Institute staff and the payment of the program fees.

    All fees are to be paid upon enrollment.

    Requirements

    All students who are admitted to the program must agree to:

  • Spend a minimum of 3 hours per week as a chaplain in a facility
  • Submit a quarterly report to the Institute of their chaplaincy activities
  • Complete a minimum of 7 hours continuing education per year
  • Remain in good standing with their church and chaplaincy/facility

    All chaplains who are to be recertified must meet these requirements.

    Quarterly Reports are kept on file for reference and used for recertification.

    Chaplains Seeking Certification


    The Bereavement Care Institute may certify individuals who meet the following standards:

    1. A minimum of three (3) years experience in an active volunteer chaplaincy which can documented. Letter of designation - where serving as volunteer chaplain
    2. A minimum of one hundred and twenty seven (127) hours of training at one or more of the following:
  • Annual volunteer chaplaincy training
  • College of Chaplains
  • Introduction Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)-One Unit
  • Completion of Bereavement Care Institute Chaplaincy Program

      3. Letter of recommendation from home church approving chaplaincy.

      4. Commitment to serve a minimum of three hours per week as a chaplain.
