Rock On!!!

Welcome to my Rockpage!

Welcome to Brian's nonstoppin' hardrockin' Rockpage! This site contains a list of my favorite bands, a brief description of each one, and some of my favorite songs played by the bands. There are also some cool rock links too! If you don't appreciate music anywhere from the late 60s to 80s, go back to Brian's Homey Homepage! Rock on!!!

AC/DC- "Heavy Metal from Hell." This Australian rock group seems to base all their songs on sinning. The lyrics are pretty vulgar, and they like to play songs about Hell. "Hell's Bells," "Highway to Hell.." Oh well, I own numerous AC/DC albums: "Back in Black" (arguably their best release), "High Voltage," and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirty Cheap." I'm looking forward to owning "Ballbreaker" as soon as possible. I try to ignore the lyrics of certain songs such as "Shoot to Thrill," but the riffs are too damn good not to listen to.
Favorite Songs by AC/DC:
1) Back in Black
2) Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
3) T.N.T.
4) Thunderstruck
5) Highway to Hell
6) Big Balls
7) Hell's Bells
8) You Shook Me All Night Long
9) High Voltage
10) What Do You Do For Money Honey?

Led Zeppelin- "The Band That Started It All." Zeppelin grew to fame instantly after their release of their first explosive album, Led Zeppelin 1. Their music was the beginning of classic rock, and was a mix of rock and roll, metal, celtic, and Indian music. This blend was a unique style only performed by Zeppelin. They're concerts were filled with fanatics who were intrigued with this style of music, and their concerts began to become notorious involving all sorts of drugs. I currently own Led Zeppelin 1, 4 (ZOSO), and Physical Graffiti (the 2CD set).
Name Origin: Arose out of Jimmy Page's early plan to start a band with Keith Moon and John Entwistle (who were fed up with The Who). Cynically, Entwistle said "We'll call it Lead Zeppelin, because it'll go down like a lead balloon." The 'a' was later dropped from Lead so it wouldn't be pronounced Leed.
Favorite Songs by Led Zeppelin:
1) The Rover
2) Dazed and Confused
3) Stairway to Heaven
4) Kashmir
5) Communication Breakdown
6) Houses of the Holy
7) Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
8) Black Dog
9) When the Levee Breaks
10) Good Times Bad Times

Van Halen- "Just Another Damn Good Band." Yeah, that's right. Van Halen was incredible during their long span through the 80s and 90s, and left the world with some of the greatest songs in classic rock history. I own "Van Halen Best Of" Volume 1 Gold(Best of Van Halen duh). This album has just about every good song by Van Halen except a couple, so it was a "smashing" deal and I highly recommend that if you want good classic rock, check out this CD. Excellent rockers!
Favorite Songs by Van Halen:
1) Panama
2) Poundcake
3) Ain't Talkin' Bout Love
4) Unchained
5) Humans Being
6) Eruption
7) Right Now
8) Jump
9) Dreams
10) Dance the Night Away

Lynyrd Skynyrd- "Southern Bayou Rock." After I first heard "Free Bird" by Skynyrd, I was like 'man those hicks sure can play!' The riffs were mad incredible! Then I heard Saturday Night Special and I was an immediate Skynyrd fan. Plus the fact that 105.9 WHCN seems to broadcast Skynyrd on the radio all the time, I've really got into their music. Free Bird will always soar high... Rock on hicks!
Name Origin: From Leonard Skinner, name of unpopular gym teacher in the Florida school that most of the group attended. Renowned for punishing boys with long hair.
Favorite Songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd:
1) Free Bird
2) Saturday Night Special
3) What's That Smell
4) Gimme Three Steps

The Doors- "Best Band in 1969." The Doors could have easily released their music during the 80s, and still have been just as successful and popular. The always stoned Jim Morrison, Robby Krieger, and Ray Manzarek created a bold step into the happy go lucky oldies music, and created mildly aggressive tunes and riffs.
Name origin: Jim Morrison took it from an essay on drugs, The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley. The title itself is a phrase from 18th century poet William Blake:"If the doors of perception were cleansed, man could see things as they truly are; infinite."
Favorite Songs by The Doors:
1) Light My Fire
2) Break on Through (To the Other Side)
3) Take It As It Comes
4) Twentieth Century Fox
5) Soul Kitchen
6) The End

KISS- "Scary hags." Hey, you gotta appreciate the whole gang wearing that scary makeup and lipstick shit to every concert for twenty years. Hats off to Gene Simmons, Ace Frehely, Paul Stanley, and Peter Kriss. Although KISS is considered heavy metal, the music is pretty light. Most of you saw them play "Rock and Roll all Nite," at the Super Bowl pregame show. Well, that's how most of their music is, very good riffs and tunes, but they can never seem to finish their songs off. Basically KISS, like Led Zeppelin, earned their reputation off their concerts. Unlike Led Zeppelin, their concerts were mostly positive, except for the occasional distribution of LSD :) The pyrotechnics at their concerts are incredible, and they do stunts with the stage crew which are really cool. During the Psycho Circus tour, Peter Criss (the drummer) was elevated like 30 feet in the air on a platform while he drummed out his solo. Paul Stanley ran across the catwalk while playing, and then jumped down into the pits. Finally, the fireworks and great pyrotechnics incited the entire concert atmosphere up. KISS puts up some damn fine concerts. I only own two CDs: Hotter than Hell, and Dynasty (thanks boyce!) I'm deciding if I should buy some more.
Name Origin: KISS is an acronym for Knights In Satan's Service.
Favorite Songs by KISS:
1) X-Ray Eyes
2) Rock and Roll all Nite
3) Magic Touch
4) Hard Days

Indirect 7 - "A Stupid Punk Pawp Band from West Hartford." That's all I have to say. I don't know what the hell they play, but you can visit their website by clicking here. Band members are: Andrew Almeida (a.k.a. Andy the Mexican), Dan Jacobson, Josh Gomby, and Jedis A. Homosexual. Um.. they've played with MXPX at a concert so I have to give them some respect.

Mail me if you have any Favorite Bands you want me to put on the Rockpage!
