Andes Mountain Company
Profile

Our goal is to offer quality alpacas, fiber, and management of alpaca investment projects.

We first encountered alpacas on a visit to Peru and Bolivia, during a stay of several years in Chile working in the mining and forestry industries. Searching for small business opportunities at home, we realized alpacas and their fiber products offer excellent investment potential, for ourselves as well for others who may not yet be aware of the business. We began to research what existing farms were doing and offering, how associations and other organizations were developing, then to search for some nice animals with which to begin our herd. We spoke with several owners, all of whom were proud and excited about their own farms, and very helpful to newcomers. We found what we were looking for at Morning Sun Alpacas,
an excellent package, and we were on our way.

An Alpaca Investment for You
Alpacas are well suited to a relaxed, healthy lifestyle, and raising them is easily compatible with other full-time employment. They require little space, food or veterinary care, and they cause little impact on their pasture. You need not even have your own acreage to invest in alpacas. Boarding, or agistment, is offered by many large and small alpaca farms and ranches for reasonable fees. We would be most pleased to discuss an alpaca investment project for you, or to refer you to someone more knowledgable than ourselves about your particular interest, if that should be appropriate.
Alpacas as a business compare rather favorably to many other activities, especially with respect to the quality of time spent developing and managing the venture. They are magical creatures to behold. One touch of their exquisite fiber will enchant you with alpaca garments and products, and probably, with the alpacas themselves. We invite you to browse our site, our bookstore (an associate site of Amazon.com) and to consider an investment of your own in alpaca breeding.
An alpaca herd as a livestock investment or business offers substantial opportunity for income, capital appreciation, and tax deductions. Perhaps you are aware of these opportunities. If not, we would like to help show you how.
Take a look around our site, learn more about alpacas, about us, and about our products and services. See our articles, exhibits and links to other sites. Please feel free to send questions any time you like.

Quick Facts :

Breeding
Alpaca gestation is about 335 days. Females may begin breeding at about 16-18 months.

Care
It costs less to feed and care for an alpaca
than for the average family dog.

Fiber
Each adult alpaca produces 6-10 pounds of fiber annually. Aplaca fiber is not itchy. It  is about 7 times as warm as sheep wool.

Pasture
Alpacas are small, social creatures. One acre of appropriate pasture is often enough for six to ten alpacas.
