In a brazen attempt to overthrow the will of California voters, California's State Assembly will vote before the end of January 2002. on whether to legalize homosexual marriage in California. A group of arrogant legislators believe their own personal agenda is more important than the will of the people they are elected to represent. While supporters of the bill say it doesn t grant marriage status because it refers only to "civil unions," if passed, AB 1338 (Koretz, D-West Hollywood) will equate homosexual marriage to traditional heterosexual marriage, including the use of the terms "spouse," "husband," "wife," "married person," etc. If passed, this bill will send a clear message to every child in the nation that the State of California believes there is no difference between homosexuality and heterosexuality no matter what children have been taught by their parents or their religion."

Action Needed:

On January 14, 2002 Paul Koretz (D-West Hollywood) pulled his civil union bill, AB 1338, from consideration. This victory however, is only a temporary victory, as he can re-introduce his bill at any time and has promised to re-introduce this bill over and over until it’s passed. Although we celebrate the victory of AB 1338 being removed from consideration, it is a guarded victory and we cannot take it for granted. We would like to thank all who helped by contacting your legislators and the governor, but we must remain vigilant. This battle is not over.
