Local church honors fallen hero:  Jeremy Foshee's home church dedicates park to his memory

Local hero Sgt. Jeremy Foshee is to be honored by the church that he attended.   New Home Baptist Church in Pisgah is in the process of building a park in honor of Foshee.

Foshee's parents, Bobby and Patsy,  still attend the church along with Foshee's brother, Nick.  Bobby is a deacon at the church and Patsy holds the position of a teacher at the church.

Both of Foshee's parents feel honored that the church has decided to build the park.  The church's pastor, Rev. David Smith says that the park is being built in honor of Jeremy because of his service to his country.

"It is also to keep his memory alive for the kids of the church and the community," said Smith.

The park will contain a pavilion with a kitchen facility and a bathroom, a picnic area with tables, a playground, a volley ball court, a baseball field, and basketball facilities.

Smith says that the park will have plenty of room for expansion and is being built on land that the church already owned.

There will be a special memorial placed at the end of the pavilion with Sgt. Jeremy Foshee Memorial Park written on it along with a flag pole.

"His memory should be kept alive," said Smith when asked why the park was to be named in honor of Foshee.  "He gave his life for our country in Operation Enduring Freedom and that is smething that doesn't need to be forgotten."

Smith says that Foshee's parent's were consulted before the construction of the park began and were not only in favor of the park being named after their son, but they were also honored.

Smith says that most of the funding for the memorial park came from the members of the church who gave above their tithes and offerings.

"We have had a few gifts from outside the church," said Smith.  "But everything has come mostly from our church family."

The date for the completion of the park is set for the first of October.
