Since his first days in Starfleet academy, Spock
colored
his green lips red with a special cream. It was a small
concession to the human disability to handle things
that
were outside their evolutionary range - - green lips
automatically signaled illness to them, evoking
obstructive
rejection.
So when he finally ran out of it, he felt not comfortable
when asking the Doctor for a new tin. But McCoy
made no
crude remark; instead, he enhanced the original
composition and applied the first layer himself with
unexpectedly
soft touches. This way, Spock began to get to
know the real McCoy.
